i have had this under the house for years ;
it seems nicely built and i guess it is homemade , possibly from plans ?
would boards like these have been commercially available also ?

Nah, yours have mast tracks in them

I've seen similar in my go to board merchant's rafters... That's all I've got.

Could b a banana board .? Seen a few when i was a grommet !

we used to call them cigar boxes

Sand it back and varnish it. They are definitely worth something. Great to have as an ornament.

With a big fin and straps , I recon it would work . Could be a light wind weapon. ? , Not sure about gybing . Or falling on it . Or climbing on it . I'd give waves a miss . Deck grip would help . Nice carry handles . Is that a prototype Vortex plug ?
The way my mind works , I think I'd have fun sailing it . Kinda like a Wally ?

I think the timber will be soft, so I'd sand, and not too hard. Then go for a solid finish that seals it.

Then comes the deep tuttle foil box . . .

Sand it gently.
Paint stripper could stain/perish even further the exposed wood.
Also, an option would be, to not remove all the old paint, just the loose stuff.
And then veneer it with a product of your choice, that will capture the old school look of the board.

Dude you can sail that just like Mike Waltze sailing a door!
The paint looks very loose, try a paint scraper with a new sharp blade on and that should get most off.
Definitely use an exterior wood finish.
