My son had to put his dog down after 16 1/2 years which is a good innings but why does it hurt so much . I know where ever he went she went camping fishing etc but to get over 100 comments on F/B this dog must have touched a lot of hearts RIP Shiffa

Tough loosing a little mate.
Some say to always have two with a good age difference, as its not so tough when one goes

I think that last suggestion is a good one. Probably also a good thing for the dog depending on whether it likes company or not as it gets older.

I guess its hard knowing that you will eventually have to put your dog down, but its a reality that they only live so long, and if the dog has been treated well, it has had a good life. I am getting more concerned about this myself as my dog is showing signs of problems at a bit over 14 YO.

This hurts. I recently had to do this, a few months ago, she went naturally after 18 years and it still hurts. Has a special spot in the yard

We have stomached many pets dying and it sucks. Luckily have a vet in the family or the bills would suck too.

I never want another "new" pet again. After owning so many pets... This one was different. Once the 4 pets we have left are gone that's it.

It's too Sad. All the great times where great but now it's just a bad taste in your mouth and sadness.

They give you unconditional affection - and if the time comes they have to be put down then you need to remember your part of the deal ....sad but everything "costs"....hope your son gets over the loss and gets another dog...

Sorry to hear Bounty, we had to do the same to our beautiful Gravy just last week.

We will get another, as I hope your son does, but in due time.

Good Luck.
