Has anybody cleaned slippery moss off brick paving with a high pressure cleaner?
My wife looked at hiring one but it's $200. She looked at buying one and the prices vary between $50 and $800.
So obviously there's a lot of difference in these things.
Question is how good do they have to be to clean moss off of bricks?

Yes.

I use a big name brand with a purpose attachment for cleaning paving.

It works a treat... can be done with just the spray, but the paving cleaner attachment is the business.

Thanks Pugsy, but is yours a $50 job or an $800 device? That's what I really need to know. I don't want to spend big on something I don't need but also don't want to buy something that doesn't do the job.

It's a big brand name that is yellow and starts with K... it's about 20 years old and much closer in cost to the top end...

Can't really say much about the cheaper ones..

whilst not to environmentally sound it doesn't hurt to wet the surface followed by a timely wet chlorine blanket prior to liftoff

I bought a cheapie, some typical no-brand name brand, if you know what i mean, and it works fine. For $100 I can't complain and seems to do everything I ask of it. The hard bit is wanting to stand there and blast everything away neatly.

My next door neighbour has the basic Karcher. It's about $150. We've been sharing it to clean our pavers for the past 25 years. It does a good job and is still working pretty much fine.

The machine seems to leak water a little bit, and the lock on trigger button doesn't work. Other than that it's all good. It takes water in one end and squirts it out fast at the other. What more do you want?

One issue is we let the pavers get pretty yuck before cleaning them. Too much aggressive pressure cleaning takes the top off the pavers and you can see the aggregate showing through. It's better to clean a little gently and more often.

Did it just last weekend, and they came out great.
Used an $120 pressure washer from ebay (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/133203506767?ViewItem=&item=133203506767) w/ it's rotating brush attachment... it's like a large heart shape brush and inside has 2 jets that rotate.

There's a treatment product that you can use that will kill it with spraying

I have a green one, was about $180 I think from Bunnings, works quite well to remove moss. I don't think you have to buy an $800 machine.

Hey in NZ we have "wet and forget" that removes all that by spraying a hand pump or an option of connecting your hose.
It takes time for the weather to do its thing but definitely works as a better option than water blasting.
Good luck

^^^^^ +1 for wet and forget, works extremely well. High pressure cleaning will pit and erode pavers over time, some really quickly depending on how they are made.

High pressure cleaners are like leaf blowers, fun and easier effort wise if you are the user, fricken annoying early on a Sunday morning, when I had close neighbors who seemed to like pressure cleaning everything at 5:30am?
But on those days, just a by accident, I would choose to mow my lawn and use the whipper snipper at 10pm
