Hey what does a marina berth cost you in the capital cities. Cheapest one in the NQtown I live in is $6570 PA in advance and thats only a 10m berth. pretty outrageous. was looking into a boat with a mate (not purchase price we were worried about but marina prices)
and it wokrs out to be $64 each a week just for the marina. (price above)

suspect cheaper in capital cities?

Rates will vary depending on the difference between a commercial marina and a yacht club.
My 10 metre pen in a perth yacht club is about $3000, but then there are club commitments, membership fees and bar purchases which take it to about $4k...
Clubs usually have wait lists for pens as they are cheaper than commercial places..

I think this may be one of those rare occasions where the country folk aren't necessarily ripped off.
It was a few years ago, but Busselton area was costing about 3k per year while I was paying nearly 7k in Perth. I eventually put it on a dry rack for 5.

My mooring licence cost me $49.20 to renew this year. It went up by $1.70 from last year. What a rip off.

Of course it's secure. It's a Lotus, nobody is going to steal it (sorry Cisco, you know I don't mean it).

myusernam,

i dont ont know if you have the opporunity where you are, but if you are only chasing a 10m pen, you would have a good chance of fitting it into most dry racks. Not only are they usually slightly cheaper, but you save on anti foul, doesnt need polishing as often, I've found less wear and tear on engine legs and other components, and depending on the outfit, they house down at the end of the day. I had mine at a place where they re-fuelled and added ice and beer at cost price- now mark up. Where I have mine now don't do that (and cost slightly more), but is in a better location with better facilities.

Racks do have there down side though. Main one is I can't just go and sit on the boat and have a bevy or two.

Once I had a mooring (ocean side) got tired of cleaning bird poop specially cormorants (shags). Sold the yacht and mooring! Was a 40ft concrete job with 13t displacement.
Miss the yacht but not the guano smell!
I guess in the river would be a bit better! But I think I hate droping the mast to go under bridges even more than birds poo!

we used to have ours in freo . Until they dropped a friends sundancer lifting it from the racks . OOOPS

and the fact you can't spontaniously take the boat out and if it's a long weekend or something every other person in the complex wants their boat offloaded . Flying squadron have some cheap pens going .

Not to mention the touch parking method they use

A mate is involved in the new racking in freo thats undercover. I think its called Blue or something like that. They have a great set up but still the issues as listed make it less than ideal. Not such a issue for a pure fishing vessel..
