want someone to bring me back a sounder from the usa and it costs over $1000.
Should I get him to unbox it all and post it to me to save paying duty? what are the workarounds

I recently (last year) had some very expensive (just under $2k) brand new motorcycle parts sent over from the US- the guys just repacked them and declared them as "refurbished/reconditioned "

1 off or occasional will get thru- problem is if you try to bring boxes thru every week!

And funnily enough- because they were exporting the items - they didn't charge me US sales tax so the parts were cheaper than the price shown on their web-site

We have a FTA with the USA, so almost everything is duty free. But there is GST, and it payable on new and second hand items.

So it really depends on how far over $1000 it is...if not to much get the "invoice" price reduced (regardless of what you actually pay).

If way over pay the GST

I think the FTA covers things made in the USA... which may or may not be the case.

I bought some Ezzy masts a few years back and they are made in the USA, so it was no problem.

Come on MyUserNam. It would be the most un-Strayan thing to dodge paying import duties. Pay up. Straya needs you to do the right thing
