OK crew,

My computer thingo runs Windows 8.1, but keeps insisting that I vaccinate it with a shot of Win.10

Being the proudly hopeless techno-peasant that I am, what is your advice?

[this could be fun, entertaining or dangerous - or all at the same time ]

Have done the conversion.
On an older laptop and on a new PC

W10 is heapums better than sh8.1.

Have a look at "How to geek" site for hints.
A back up computer with access to the interwebby is handy in case anything plays silly buggers.

Some people have reported issues, but I'm happy with it.

Be careful Steven, if you keep getting this message, that's fine, and if you move to 10 that's also fine. BUT it isn't for nix. In 12 months ya gotta pay for it
Me I haven't bothered as I think its a bit of a con job letting me use it, then locking it up when I least expect

I am on Windows 7 which is fine. I was offered the Windows 10 upgrade for free and did it. I ran it for about a month, hated it and went back to Windows 7.

Why straight to 10 from 8? Because seven ate nine. True story.

Stephen if you don't like it you can revert to 8.1, again for free, no dramas, if you do it within 30days

I am considering and dunno if i will.... so Elmo votes for 10... anyone else..?

Apparently MS skipped Windows 9 because there are many older Windows application that have Win9 coded into them for Windows 95 and 98. Windows 9 would have stuffed a lot of these applications, apparently.

30 Days after upgrade then you cant roll back.

I've upgraded 3 tablets at home from 8 and 8.1 to 10 (Ranging from Atom to i5 processors)

So far, its not too bad, better than 8 was with regards to desktop usability (detects when a keyboard is connected)

Charms and other "you didn't know it was there" swiping etc is gone. Loads of evolutionary dead ends in 8.

The new Edge browser is a bit of pain (Old IE is still there but there is some hacking to get it to be the default browser)

One upside is the wife's Dell Venue 11 now has better battery life and a niggly sound issue has been fixed with the upgrade.

NB I still use Win7 on my work PCs as I like to be productive ;)

10 is great, update is easy and I did not lose anything, boots faster, closer to seven than crappy 8.1 for usage and if you play games, it has direct x 12
All good

Just bought a new laptop for the missus, came with Win 8.1 spent about half an hour trying to work it out and I work in a technology industry, what a piece of crap, then went to Win 10 which is pretty good. Would have preferred to have gone to 7 as this is rock solid but it seems to be off limits unless you are on a corporate deal.

I'm about to do the upgrade myself, hoping for some better video playing than what I currently have with W7.
