Rumour has it that the russians have detected alien intelligence 67 light years away & this has been confirmed by seti & The results of this will be announced at the big science conference in mexico on the 22 .
Now my understanding of the universe is that nothing except for the universe can travel faster than the speed of light so even if they left now it would take them longer than 67 years to get here .
I would think that the biggest affect that it would have would be on religions .
How would it change life on our planet ?

well at the start of the year there was a rumour going around gravity waves had been detected & then they made the announcement that they had been detected so I'm waiting with interest to see if this will be the case this time.
but even if they haven't this time eventually i hope they will & I'm trying to think of the ramifications will there be a mass panic ?
will religions change to accommodate this ?
will the world suddenly come together to face what I imagine most military minds would consider a threat ?
will it encourage us to become a space fairing race faster
Will it be portrayed in the media as second fiddle to celebrity gossip & sports ?

I remember being told a story about a noise spike that appeared randomly and momentarily on the spectrum at a radio telescope observatory. This spike caused great confusion and a large investigation followed as to what was causing this random noise spike. They eventually found that the spike came from the microwave oven in the chow down room but only when someone opened the door before the oven had timed out.

I think we should limit all radio transmissions on earth to 1 watt. So the Aliens don't find us. Because if they're anything like us, and they have the technology to get here before we have it to get there. It won't be good.

General relativity does allow for worm holes but the greater theory of relativity doesn't .
Hawking published a paper about that I just can't remember what it was called this morning so the best we could ever hope for is to detect radio waves . unless they go the slow boat method & spend a long time coming here or have a greater understanding & some new technology

True so far as we know it. But , in another universe ( and theres no reason there cant be , maths says there should be ) , there could be totally different laws of physics. We are probably not evolved enough to ever understand , its like trying to teach a dog poetry.
