The unemployment resulting from the Govts recent decisions should not have even happened in a lot of cases.

On the news I see a restauranteur, sooking about having to close as he sent all the staff home. Well hang on, once the waitstaff have gone, how about you halve your prices and do takeway only? Wouldn't people love a high quality meal for $20 instead of pizza or Maccas? Surely he can survive

Again, a hairdresser crying on the telly and saying she has a choice of being broke or being sick. OMG the hyperbole. If all the nurses (and other emergency services that have to contact people) just wear gloves, mask and wash well and deal with DEFINITE cases of flu / COVID19 etc, what's wrong with hairdressers suiting up and bunging on gloves too? Its not like ALL their customers are sick, like some professions have to manage. Some folks wipe poo off walls all day, some wade thru it. Grow up hairdressers.

However, winery in southern WA kept the staff on, distilled alcohol and made hand sanitiser to (1) stay in business and (2) help the community. Top stuff.

But for many its too easy to have a sook and ask for Govt help in everything.

I feel for those who've been sacked and the lines at Centrelink are a disgrace (its a disgrace on a normal day...) but the bosses who didn't think of alternatives before taking the easy route then asking for Govt help are scum.

I'd be up for the 80% as long as those that take it pay back with a 20% tax hike for 4 years.

So...too bad so sad for those that have lost their jobs due to this pandemic?

no I think its only double if you have been on the dole for 26 wks.
normal dole if you sign up now, with the $750 bonus.
if so, dole bludging career bumbs get double for nothing.
plenty of grants for small business but they have to be paid back.
Not the double dole payments.

Cut the defence budget in half and you're putting another I dunno, 20,000 people out of work. How, exactly is that going to help the unemployment rate?

Might be a good time to bring all overseas deployed military home. Maybe 12 month freeze on capital expenditure where beneficiaries are overseas companies. The fat within Federal, state and local procurement is mind blowing - I'd guess at least 25%. Maybe this is a catalyst to improve overall efficiency.

I was talking about the OS contracts for machines that have an "open ended" price, not the running budget that employs Aussies.

they all just signed up to get something, better than nothing. its not right that career dole bludgers get double & don't hav to pay it bak.

Just Google them, it's not hard. They have apparently been paid for their expertise by people like Suncorp, Deloittes, the Business Council of Australia, OECD, Industry Super Australia and others.

You don't have to agree with them, but they look like smart guys who have spent decades looking at employment etc. Just writing them off as teachers is silly.

The Labor government got absolutely roasted on here after the spending for the GFC to try and save our arses. Here, the Liberal government is spending up because they have to. I would not and do not blame them for doing this, and only hope they do enough.

We were heading to a recession or as close as before this, and now it really doesn't matter. It doesn't mean though that we can't sit here and analyse or even criticise them in the way they spend. Its all part of discussion. Whether you like the discussion or not.
