Cost me 1980 plus to get various problems fixed which includes payment of the fine.

Two tyres.upholstery on the ceiling,seat belts,windscreen,window not winding up correctly.

Inspection cost 93 dollars and they failed it on two non safety issues.

The strap that stops the door from opening up easily and the seat belt was not retracting properly.

Went back about two hours later after I fixed the problems but had to pay another 60 odd dollars for a 60 second inspection.

They are a bunch of a holes. Money corrupts absolutely.

I would rather this than a mandatory annual inspection like NSW etc.
I picked up a yello sticker on my old hilux for a cracked windscreen last year.
All up it was a cost to replace stuff to get it over the pits, but it was the first inspection in 20 years so not so bad ...
What I don't like is the mandatory vehicle immobilizer, always cause trouble in older vehicles , put one in for the day and removed immediately..

I don't care about your passenger but I would care if your buggered tyres caused you to hit me or my family.

I had hot cars when I was young. I speed lots. Never complain when I get the fines though cos it is a choice.

Would have cost you less to pick up a cheap Toyota Echo. They last forever as are cheap as chips on fuel.

Totally agree Mark........and your defective car would not be covered by insurance (if it was) when you cleaned someone up.

A seatbelt not retracting properly is not a trivial fault.

They need to be wound up correctly to absorb the strain of an impact and to allow the end of reel stitching at the barrel to tear in a controlled release to decelerate you and not cause huge internal trauma. Also they can inadvertently be hooked under a seat control lever if not fully retracted and the slack is a killer. I've seen this as a volunteer in road crash rescue.

That's the trouble with coppers they never pick on the roadworthy vehicles or law-abiding citizens. The go out of their way to be biased about that.

When I was your age I gave some lip to the local police officer, he was waiting for me when i got home. Having a cup of tea with mum & dad. B....... took my licence and car.

Hi Haircut. I had that problem in an old Camry, a packet of thumb tacks did the trick. And make sure there are no gaps above the windows or it will catch the wind, flap about and pop a few tacks out, not nice when you find the one you couldn't find... It never happened again after I slid plastic rulers into the moulding above the door frame to hold the fabric flat against the wall/roof, but you could improvise with anything.

.I got a speeding fine recently,long weekend , double demerits. my stupid fault. Lesson learnt.
I do wish the police cars would spend more time on the road being visible as this would be the gretaest reminder of all to drive safely.
we recently drove 2400kms across Australia without seeing a single police car,and then only 2 on the way back as iit was a long weekend

I drove from Perth all the way to Sydney without seeing a single cop car, although it was 20 years ago and we did it in 48 hours

I copped a canary for my loud pedal being too close to the stop pedal in my V6 Capri [was factory standard]
and another for only having 4 seatbelts [in a 4 seater]
and another when the officer burnt his knuckles on the exhaust and head butted the aircleaner, when he slipped while "testing to see if the battery was secured"

Back then, yellow stickers didnt bother our mob very much - we had a full set of standard wheels, tyres, suspension, brakes, 4 cyl and V6 carbies, exhausts and assorted stuff waiting in a shed for a trip to the pits with the amount of practice we had it didnt take us long to swap stuff out

Falcons are oneof the cars that are notorious for the ceiling to droop down and obstruct vision.

One of my workmates was picked for this - and BEFORE going through the pits he asked the inspectors if it was ok to just remove the lining and paint the bare metal roof instead.

The car was just a cheapy hack for A to B commuting, nothing flash.

Inspectors answer was you can rip out the dodgy ceiling lining, just make sure there are no sharp or possibly dangerous edges exposed, or unsecured wiring.
[and a coat of paint will make it not so obvious if you do get pulled over again.]
Cosmetic "alterations" that do not affect safety or infringe on reg's or rules - do not bother the inspectors.

Two points to remember, here in W.A.,

The Transport Department inspectors have to make sure your vehicle complies with all the safety regulations and design rules that apply to your vehicle.
They know the rules and regulations pretty damn well.

The Police only have to rely on thier opinion regarding the presentation and condition of your vehicle.
They do not have to know the applicable design rules or regulations.

So........dont give the Police a reason to look at your car - and you wont need to go through the pits

Hey Haircut and Landyacht, if the lining is hanging down just grab a can of spray glue, remove the interior light (not very difficult, two screws normally) and spray the gunk around then just press the lining back up into place, it doesn't have to be pretty. My dog/ beach car had the same prob and was getting a bit dangerous to drive, but is now fine and pig bait free (depending of driving characteristics of course).

Can of spray glue = $14

Time spent = 1 hour all up

The filth pulling you over and doing you for a loose roof lining = $$$king painful

Been stopped twice for speeding in my ute but weasled my way out by mentioning to the coppers that of course it was much safer to speed on salt lakes in my blokart.
"what's a blokart?" they ask. Reaching behind my seat I whip out some advertising brochures and hand them over. ''Any time you would like to come for a sail just give me a call". After a couple of minutes chatting about blokarts they leave me with a "take it easy ah".

I drove an unregistered car without number plates (although with a proper legal travel permit) from Townsville to Sydney and only saw a cop car in Charters Towers, and only then because its a small town and I was driving past the cop shop. At least they pulled me over to ask why I had no number plates (and again the next morning), so its not as if they let things fly.

The rest of the way I was so surprised that there were no cop cars around and 'they' seem to rely on number plates to fine people in radar sections.... which is all fine if you have number plates on.

Sounds like you missed the opportunity to make an extra $100 by having someone come take it away! I'm quite sure how there money corrupt A holes tho?

On topic, I hope... My car was "borrowed" by some well tanned locals and was bush bashed etc. Cops relocated it but didn't show for forensics. Will they slap a licky on for driving with a customised front quarter panel?
BTW, culprits arrested, but I haven't heard anything other than they are trying to find owners for all the booty they had procured.

all for protecting your safety and the safety of others heeee everyones got a story THE V8 DAYS WERE A CLASSIC got a street drinking fine for one empty can of bourboune empty on the passanger floor ?? did the breath test 000 then get lecture about insufficient tread and how unsafe it is and i could kill someone ????
