I haven't found it be slower, but not faster either. I installed a fresh copy on a machine that had xp on it. With yours being a new one you'd expect the hardware to be up to spec. What's the "windows experience index" rated on it? Here it's 4.5.

I haven't tried the voice recog, but the youtube experience looks to be inline with most computer frustrations. I have to open a 32bit browser everytime I need to look at something like youtube.

Don't buy an OS on it's first few months, wait for a few service packs to come out First.

Heard that one... There are a few staility probs, but otherwise all good. I am impressed with Vista... But more impressed with MS Office 07... Much better than the others...

Windows Vista is best left alone until Service Pack one is released, and someone has done a full registry hack to disable the Digital Rights Management stuff. And all the chatting it does to Microsoft on a regular basis. New security features are annoying as they encourage you not to use the Administrators account, but loging in as a normal user can leave you clicking OK a lot as the OS prompts you to make sure you want to install software, upgrade drivers etc. It's not just one prompt, it's many!
As for Office 2007, Microsoft are trying to give it away in the US to get it adopted. The main problem is the default 2007 Microsoft Office file format is new, and incompatible with all previous versions of Microsoft Office. You can save as, but forget to do it and send it via e-mail then the recipient has to have Office 2007 as well. There is not yet an Office Compatibility Pack available for Office for Mac. There are also formatting issues between versions.
Rule number 1 of Microsoft Software
NEVER INSTALL UNTIL THE FIRST SERVICE PACK IS AVAILABLE(As a minimum).
(That's one big nerdy rant)

lol,

no bloody wonder vista won't work on the machine quoted in the article.

90% of the software i use on xp won't work on a machine with that type of spec.

I am not going to bother shifting to vista until I have a direct X 10 graphics card, and they are nearly a grand atm... so will be waiting a while. Much rather spend my $$$ on windsurfing kit

by the time someone has written a programme for a new product to be updateable its twenty models behind, so as mentioned before microvirus has its good points but the bad ones take over.oh on this com I'm also setting up virtual machine and run windows as a programme instead of an o/s.

Heard of that... Although I've been told the applications I'd like to run within the program wouldn't run so cleanly, slow.

I'll stick with my windows for now....
