Feeling for you PJ, suffer the same problem with wide flippers myself.
Jim kids sports stock New balance shoes which do extra width shoes, I'm about 4E - 6E
In hiking shoes the brand "Keens" do extra wide shoes.
My most comfy shoes are my work boots, can wear all day day after day and no issues, regular footwear still gives me grief.
You guys are lucky you don't ski... or maybe you do. Ski boots for wide feet are a pain to find. Pun intended.
There is nothing like coming down a run with your feet aching because the boots are too narrow. If your kid can wear heat molded ski boots I can offer a solution, but otherwise .... no. And I am not even a 4E!
Cook your boot shells in the oven for 10 mins, liners on your feet with nice thick socks, into boots and tighten. Stand in them for a few mins and them walk out into the snow to set them. Voila, heat molded boots.
inov8 make good wide trail shoes
I can't tell if you are joking or not. Some of the shells can work like that and others can't.
I got fitted for a pair of Fischer heat moldable boots, where they heat them up and then 'vacuum' them down to size, which is really just pressurized air in a cuff around the boot. They fit perfectly.
I found the shells to be too flexible as they were a comfort fit, bought some more sturdy ones online and then did essentially what you said above. I fit the liners first, and once they were set, did the boots. Again, a perfect fit and the best pair of boots I have owned.
