I don't understand this. Why does the PM want Qld and WA to open up, and of course NT, SA, and Tassie, when these states otherwise have no current problems with Covid? Does he want us all to suffer?

I am in WA, and TBH we are very lucky at the moment, and I think we would want to keep it that way. Normally, how many people travel regularly between east and west anyhow?

Maybe we need to get our quarantine setups right first? I was talking to someone that spent a few weeks at Howard Springs recently and said it was like a wellness retreat. No wonder it has become the de-facto standard for quarantine facilities, unlike the idea of jamming people into hotels in the middle of busy cities waiting for it to leak out into the community.

Nah I do. I have most of my family in NSW, and some n Qld. I would like to visit them, but I can skip a year. They have phones and I talk to them regularly.

I do feel guilty though that WA is quite open at the moment, but I have no interest in being locked down either.

Going to be over two years soon (with no end in sight) since the grandparents have seen their grandkids etc. Pretty easy to not worry about skipping a year when you're young and healthy... And FaceTime just can't replace actual face time.

You shouldn't be worried about opening up if you are vaccinated.

All vaccinated people should have unrestricted travel everywhere.

Yes we all do the right thing and tourists get a right bollocking if they don't. Yesterday in town was fun, we may have sent a few Adelaidians home early due to their attitude and behaviour...don't care.

It does mean that you can't get back in if you venture out of the "Hermit " state . No OS surf trips or interstate catch ups.Got a colleague who has applied 6 times to see a sick family member in WA but can't get in despite being fully vaxed and not having any cases in our area. COVID will eventually get to WA and people will have to be ready to deal with it.

Sshhh... the locals are very touchy when it comes to supporting the rest of the country... (well at least in good times, the rest of the time what happens?) I think that in good times they need to diversify so that when mining goes quiet they can do other stuff.

It is easy to assume that mining supports Australia when you are here though as so many people work in mining or something that relies on it.

Maybe we need to start an exchange program between east and west so we can learn about different cultures?

Because the concept of keeping a killer virus out of areas, whilst everyone in said areas gets vaccinated against said virus seems to be well above their level of thinking.


I hope they are in minority, but im still stunned that there are people out there who think Gladys has actually done a good job. If you want someone to blame for not being able to visit your relatives, or having them visit you, then you should be looking at her. She could have followed the path of short and sharp statewide lock downs and we might have steered clear of this mess. Instead she dithered about and did half assed lockdowns because "we need to stay open at all costs" is so important.

Now we have a complete cluster f!ck on our hands.

"A short sharp lockdown", do you mean like Victoria had?

WA is a small population. It's much easier to manage. But if restricting freedom of travel, people being able to use a house they own, attending a funeral, seeing loved ones and killing tourism businesses sounds fine to you. Then I'm thinking WA needs better a education system.

The virus is waiting for you to open. It's unlikely it'll disappear, you can delay it's arrival, by restricting your own freedoms, but it will arrive.
