How come the US has these flip n move programs? Why can't we have the same thing here where its easy to buy an old home and relocate it to new land and start from there?

Cos some of the houses they buy and flip cost less than the average home deposit here.

And the taxes and tradies cost/ waiting times would send 'em nuts.

We do. It's not all that unusual. I've seen plenty of houses cut in half, sitting on a couple of trailers about to be moved or running up the freeway. It's quite fun to go past a kitchen or a bathroom when you're driving.

A mate bought a house in the suburbs, put it on a couple of trucks, had it put back together and renovated on his country block.n It was a cream brick venereal. He sold off the bricks and had it clad in weatherboard at the other end. Came up good.

Mates of mine from way back did this a few years ago,
Friends of Glen and Jules were selling a big block in Wembley Downs, and the cute little weatherboard house was about to be demolished for impending multiple shoebox sized houses.

Glen mentioned it was a shame the "dolls house" couldn't be salvaged - owners said if he wants it - its all his!!

Checked the local council regs - before it is moved, pest control stuff to be done to prevent any possible resident rats from moving next door, so a heap of baits sorted that potential problem.

Verandahs and sleepout pulled apart and stacked in the loungeroom, dolls house picked up in one piece and taken to their bushblock in Pemberton, where it was all put back together.

Looks pretty cute now it is all sorted.

Nope, as far as I understand they simply don't have the huge government stamp duty on real estate purchases that we have.

I wonder if they get the same in the northern states where its less likely to get illegal immigrants.

One of my sister's friends bought a house in Sydney and relocated it down near Nowra, before this housing boom. He made good money on it and I think partly because he got the block of land before the boom pushed prices up.

I looked at something similar, but I am not sure if this sort of exercise in Sydney is cheap or easy. It seems that you have to remove any asbestos before moving them anyway, so I think that would be an expensive job. A lot of houses in Sydney are made from Fibro with asbestos, so its probably difficult.

There are huge properties in rural Qld loaded with uprooted houses. You can peruse their stock and have a house delivered.

Cos the Kardashians would be on at the same time and you wouldn't be able decide which was the most relevant and you would melt down

Wait wait wait -- there's definitely an Australian show that's similar. The premise is one of the hosts tries to renovate the house well enough that the owners decide to keep it, rather than selling it and buying a new house that the other host is trying to talk them into. Pretty sure there's a UK version too...

Old school mate has building business in rural Texas , no fees, no plans submitted to council , welder fabricator 15 $ an hr , you own the property you do what you like , only permits needed are for in town building , he also brought vacant reposed land on the courthouse steps for less than a 100 $ , his biggest expense is health insurance.

You aren't forced to change your name when you are a legal migrant. They don't even make you name your kids 'John', 'Pete', or even 'Chip'.
There must be a huge number of kids of migrants from Latin America in the USA that carry typical Spanish names but have very American sounding accents and some that probably don't speak Spanish very well.

I think these sort of programs only show the 'legals' and if there are any working on the site, hide the illegals.

I thought they lived on stumps to keep them cooler or to be a bit more resistant to floods?
