It's amazing how often people post Heavy Weather stuff in General.

It's like that one guy who goes for a swim amongst 50 Kiters. He just shouldn't be there.

Law of unintended consequences..? I imagine that some of these are people who have been banned and new accounts can't access HW, so content spills into general?

That's why I rarely visit the circus these days. Totally agree with MarkAustralkia, that lax and inconsistent moderation is a very big issue. No point having forum rules when they are consistently ignored. People will move over to facebook and other platforms.

Funny, I think the controversy was about users causing disharmony and discussing political topics, and then you come along to discuss disharmony and political topics.

Are you a spammer or a regular poster that decided to create another nutbag user name?

So SB and HW users have been reminded of the site rules and a not unreasonable request for self moderation has been made by the moderators, to you that is censorship? I suggest that if you are that offended by this blatant act of censorship, instead of trawling the web looking for dubious reasons to be offended you leave now and go back to sites that are more in line with your sensitivities.

You feel that this is so sad that you felt you had to create an account to bring attention to this heinous act of censorship whilst claiming that you "do not know of what has been discussed to cause your controversy", personally I think you do. What's more I think you have been here before and are now hiding behind a new login and username to further promote whatever barrow you have chosen to push today.

Maybe it's just me but it has never occurred to me to create a new or fictitious log in/user name to access a forum just to slag off about the way the site owners/moderators operates it. Go figure.

I don't click on the HW forum just like I don't for the kiting, longboarding, land yacht sailing and sailing. Doesn't interest me in the slightest.
Remember the good old Seabreeze days? We all actually knew each other in person and had each other's phone numbers and caught up often to windsurf/kite. When a post was made that contained banter no one got offended.
Still remember the night I took over the forums with the same thread and Laurie woke up the next morning freaking out wondering what had he gotten himself into. He called me and we just had a good laugh. Think it had something to do with round a bouts?
But yes I know times have changed and seems like there's too many people getting offended. There's a handful of them in the shortboard forum.
I reckon the kooks just need to stay in or go back to the Valley

Amazing isn't it, someone creates an account, makes two posts, in separate threads, on the same subject, 4 minutes apart and then crickets......We done bin trolled by a certain individual.

Good one, censorshipisbad you had us going there for a while.

Many friendships have been forged on here.

When the forums were started, the goals was all about helping each other out.
Sharing the stoke.
Improving, making friends.
Fun, but not at others expense.

And that's what we're aiming for, still. We lost our way, but are getting back on track.

Over the next month, changes will be made in line with this goal.

Enjoy ..

It will take along time to get me, and many others, back.

People who repeatedly break the rules should be kicked off- even if they advertise lots.

A good yardstick would be- if you wouldn't want your wife or kid to read the post, it shouldn't be on here.

Immediately alienates a whole load of people who could be the next generation of the water sport lovers.

These sort of comments are another reason I hardly contribute these days.

I only check in to SB periodically because I have to.

It is an interesting question, 'what is Seabreeze about'?

In the early days it was all about people connecting and sharing information. For me it coincided with the early years of getting into the sport.

Now, I am not so excited about windsurfing, more so about kiting, but even then I am not going to chat much about it. Is that sort of thing going to generate enough use of the site? Does the site need views anymore to pay its way?

I hate to be a dissenting voice, but I have noticed over the years people simultaneously complaining about no interesting topics in the general section, but not generating these topics themselves and waiting for others to do it.

I agree, HW has gotten out of control at times. For a while there it was a good place to discuss the otherwise verbotten topics, but then its gone too far, and fair enough, we can't expect the moderators to spend their time keeping people in line.

But are there going to be enough interesting topics to keep people viewing the site? Again I don't know if that matters, but I know in the non-windy season the number of sport related articles drops off.

Whatever happens, its not my decision, but I think some people are thinking it will somehow revolutionise the site, and it just won't. The same people that stay away now because of various reasons will still stay away and there won't be the stupid conversations from HW, but there won't be that many interesting ones either.

Nic Tones, sort of quality we need around here.

"Organizers of an annual conference that brings together people who believe that the Earth is flat are planning a cruise to the purported edge of the planet. They're looking for the ice wall that holds back the oceans."

Yeah bring back the red thumbs, if the red bar gets full then your voted off seabreeze island as your posts obviously must not be worthy of the high standards set by the members.

Does expressing your opinion four and a half thousand times make it more relevant? How is post count a metric for quality?

either a comment stands on its merit or it doesn't, regardless of who posts it.

Ok so 60 odd posts ago you found seabreeze and decided to use chemtrails as a user name? To me that just sounds like a name that's looking at heavy weather subjects. I did take this pic of you trying to catching a wave last week so I understand now. ??
