Question for those skilled and working in the web page updates and develop areas.
Posed at a meeting today for a business web page update was:
The group presenting advised that the new latest flash as updated web page would only be supported by Chrome and or Firefox.
So all our customers using our current webpage will if using Microsoft Edge and or Explorer will have too (if they wish to continue doing business with our group) switch to Chrome of Firefox
A few of us were rather concerned that we could alienate a number of our current customers with this proposal.
Group presenting claimed that Microsoft isn't that that good so the need not to update the page enabling "all" users.
So regardless of how good each system is, who thinks this is a good business move?

Terrible business move. This is the lazy way out.

For web pages, the whole idea is that they are written to be as cross platform as possible. There are sites such as browserstack, which can test the website against every known browser, to identify issues.

If the website can't work on Edge, then they have problems with the code.


That said, I only support Chrome for my web-based software, but that is for a super complex web application instead of a normal web page. You can only restrict browsers for sites that are internal to companies.

For web pages that are publicly accessible, it has to work on all browsers. My web site works on any browser.

Often corporates have SoEs that are locked down for quite a while and this can mean that implementing chrome or firefox may be difficult if its not already in.

I have started using Edge recently, just because you can park tabs. Its not bad, and if it was in a SoE I wouldn't push to use anything else.

^ this. most SOEs are Windows based and come with Edge + Explorer. Installing other browser is not always easy.

P.S.: does anyone remember Netscape Navigator? :-)
