Was thinking about getting a weather station for home, the type that has wireless led screen and does the usual temp, humidity, etc...plus I wanted the one with attachments for wind speed and direction. Have seen the average price for one is around $100.

Hoping to get others experience with them, durability and accuracy and which brand you have got.

Cheers

** house. I got one of these jobbies for my parents a few years ago. They love it.

The only thing they don't like about it, is the logging. The logging is a rolling update rather than daily.

Station dude ! <air guitar>

Due to the wonderful forum engine we use here, you can't use the search function to find previous posts. I'll rehash it again...

The cheap ~$100-150 model stations are great, and last years. Run on 2x AA batteries, but make sure the model you get has USB to plug into a PC/raspberry PI/NAS (linux device) which you can automate upload to the web.

I have setup 3 that have been running 24/7/365 for a couple of years. Using a Laptop or Raspberry PI (you can have the PI power your LCD indoor display) - connected to your WiFi, and require very little intervention (these below are on laptops - which require rebooting, updates, suffer power outages etc) **EDIT: I should add these 3 stations get over 1000 hits each per month all year round

Now there is a new version with built in wifi that looks the goods, but haven't played with it. From the same manufacturer that I've used in the past.
The range is here: www.foshk.com/Weather_Professional/ but ebay search the model, and you'll find re-branded local sellers. All in one units would be my recommendation, unless you want to spend $500-$2000 on a professional station for unique situations (Davey, lacrosse etc).

There is no reason you won't get several years out of these - everyone who lives near sailing spots should have one.
I find them accurate enough, and comparable to BOM stations - really depends on where and quality of installation.
Personally for the price, and the fact you can spread live data to anyone who wants it; so valuable as we want to know where has the best wind NOW. BOM really let us down with this.

G'day thouse, I've had a couple of these, one like the pic that jn1 posted, and then a slightly cheaper, simpler one form bunnings. They both lasted about 18 months; I live pretty exposed coastal, near geraldton though. I wasn't convinced of the accuracy, but once I got to know them I would use to help decide sail size, then usually overule this by looking at the water anyway my wife would often get home and then text me, "blowing 25 knots at our place" .... good reason to leave work early.
