Was New York any less efficient at doing what it does without cars? It was only 50 years ago that kids stopped playing cricket on every residential suburban street. I predict cars will have had their day in 50 years time and folks will look back on 150 years of motoring and ask "What were they thinking?"

Maybe not 50 years but I am sure it will happen one day. The world is fairly much slave to the auto industry today.

Incredibly I've checked the flag to see it's 12m weather and analysed the boats not disappearing over the horizon the world must of been flatter then ;) in all fairness it's incredible to think some of that steal in parks ect is still there. I've live a summer in new your was nothing but an overrated party. But some of the incredible work that went on to build the place is unthinkable back then lack of jsa forms ect but that said they nailed it

Should see Brest fortress for 'built' , it was a siege at the start of Hitlers advance into Russia in the second world war, constantly bombed 24/7 by Stukas and artillery, and conventional bombers "of notoriety" the germans dropped a single "2 ton" bomb on one of the encasement.
Apparently one of the famous rail road car mounted artillery cannons was there too.

The 30's in New York brought in some of the best new design elements to get away from the old stogy stuff that had been happening up until then. The 30's starting off with the arch deco design of Chrysler building that everybody should be familiar with, so no pics necessary of that, but here's something that is less known, which I think is gorgeous!
