I think this is a symptom of the way that people now are made to feel special by having kids. Everything seems to revolve around the kids, with more money and time spent on them than ever before. Its made worse by people having only a small number, so all the attention gets spent on those kids.

So, what are they to think when they become adults? Well, "I'm special, my parents always told me I was, so I want this..."

Grow up with a bunch of siblings in a family with no money and I am sure your expectations of 100K jobs just don't exist.

There's no politics in it, its just parents making their kids feel "special". Its funny that you could have a large part of the population thinking they are too good to get a job and just sit on the dole, another part that thinks they are too good for menial jobs, and another part that will be funded by their family to create a startup.

The issue that is arising here is that we are all getting older and our memories are fading. Go back to your late teens and early 20's and that egocentric attitude was just as strong all those years ago.

Many of the teenagers I know are great kids who are motivated, respectful and willing to work hard.

Admittedly social media has an ability to highlight the shortcomings and randomness of attitudes that may exist in some however, we are also slaves to it. Look at us go on this Seabreeze!

Here's another story... a couple years ago I was building an important system for a federal agency; I got sent ~20 CVs from various panel agencies. I filtered them down to 4 and sent them back to the PM to arrange interviews. I was later told I had to include some female candidates, which accounted for 2 CVs. Long story short I had to interview a female candidate or no hiring... she was an Iranian, not bad but not much help to me.

Why is there this push to get women in to tech jobs? I've never witnessed any discrimination against women it tech, but why try and force it on them/us? Where I work now there are 2 very competent Dev Op women, and they're respected bcos they can writing great bash scripts... actually I just remembered an incident where 1 woman told a senior infrastructure guy in a meeting that he had done something all wrong, he later demonstrated to me he had done it the only possible way, he wasn't happy he had been embarrassed but let it go... imagine if the roles were reversed?

If you search for "interview broke internet millennials" you'll find ...well, the interview about millennials that "broke the internet".

I've been wanting to discuss this for a while.

While I agree with nearly everything he said during the interview, and it matches perfectly what most of the above has pointed out about kids being raised as "unique and individual snowflakes that will change the world", I take issue with his final statements. He says all of that but then suggests that businesses need to treat them special too, as if that is the solution; exasperating the very problems that he outlined the entire interview!!!
