I've been to a few races following my brothers in the early 80s , the southern in Ireland imho is even more crazy than the tt, setting off together not at intervals, I used to get in the chair of the side car for start practices, you were. Human bullet 4 inches off the ground, certainly brave blokes,

I dunno if its getting older, having kids etc but with the Penalty for Failure being that high and that close, it appeals less to me.
I wouldn't advocate or support banning it etc, each to their own - we're all adults and know the risks.
Maybe that why it still holds such an strong allure in this constantly dumbed down. cotton balled world where everything needs a trigger warning to stop Darwin having his way...

there's a local guy (or girl) around the suburbs here who must be practising. He's doing the Isle of Geelong TT.

Somewhere between 2-4am, around 3 or 4 nights a week, I can here him coming from around 3 kms away, absolutely hammering his bike.
Doesn't matter that its usually p*ssing down with rain, or only 4 degrees outside or greasy roads, there's a circuit spanning a few neighbourhoods and he's fully committed to something.

Apart from being totally irresponsible, endangering any other road user that's about, let alone the intersections he's going through against the lights, etc, I've got to admit the guy must have a decent degree of skills, as we are talking serious speed. If it weren't so bloody cold Ive been tempted to get up and do a stake out just to experience him going past, but it would just be a blur and over in 2 seconds. He must have some decent go pro footage by now and it would be amazing to see.

I'm guessing he may be a shift worker given the time of the morning

(and I have considered if the police should have a word, and perhaps end up saving a life, but am not even sure they could have much luck either)

Great find Elmo. I remember a interview with John McGinness and they asked about his crash as he had yellow paint on his shoulder. No crash he said, it's paint off the barrier as you have to get in tight to make the next corner . Legend !!!!
