Can any members reccomend a quiet, comfortable , coastal "stay" in preferably northern Tassie, Doesn't need to be a surfing or sailing location, but if it was, what a bonus.

Low head is a good windsurfing spot. 45min up the Tamar from Launceston. It's been 20 years since it was my "spot", but I think it's still popular

Concur, Low Head is a lovely spot and the old lighthouse keepers residence is availble for short term hire or there are cabins at the van park but it may be a bit crowded this time of year (as in most area of Tassie in summer).

You have a few options.

Low Head - plenty of sailing options, flat water, waves within 15mins

Greens Beach - other side of the Tamar. More of a family spot. Nice beach.

Port Sorel/Shearwater - great location. Good sailing options. Speed sailing on low tides, waves at Devonport airport.

Multiple other locations including Bridport to the East and Stanley to the far North West

Go to Stanley. If you want quiet with some of the states best windsurfing right on your doorstep you won't be disappointed.

the entirety of tasmania is quite and coastal its a small island with no one on it but some cows and poppy fields

Miser is right on the money. Horrible place. I much prefer around Sydney with all the people, heat, traffic lights, overcrowded beaches, emergency vehicle sirens going off all the time.
Must be a real bummer going for a sail and there is only a handful of your mates out there and no one else!!!

Do a few rainforest walks while you are in Tassie.
Such a pretty, pretty place.
I haven't been to Tassie for a few years but I doubt if things have changed, just watch those logging trucks they think they own the road.
