I just switched all mine. I think this war could end up very problematic. I wish I had a crystal ball.

Lots of people saying all sorts of unverified things such as Bibi, and his brother were killed in Iranian strikes a few days ago. Likely crap, but I note Netanyahu hasn't been seen in public in a week and this war is way more censored than any others I've experienced. It's definitely not looking as good as Pete Hegseth tells us.

There is some bad sh1t going down and stock markets will continue to lose all gains. I think it's a given petrol will go up and will stay up, for a while longer. Petrol going up means everything else goes up. Everything going up means inflation, inflation means interest rate increases and panic buying of odd things like toilet paper.

I'm thinking property and cash are the safe havens. I understand when you change super investments it happens in a day or two?

I'm no expert, but interested what others are thinking.

Mine is with Hostplus in their indexed defensive fund, silly cheap fees and lets me sleep well at night. The returns won't shoot the lights out but enough for me to live comfortably and not have to work.

Gold and silver are better than cash.

For what its worth...my 2 strategies:
1. don't look at your super, it will only make you sad
2. buy in....whether it is to top up your super, buy ETF's or any other traded commodity with the aim of buying at a market low and expecting things to rebound....and they will. The tricky part is when does it hit it's low. Take the Warren Buffett approach invest for the long haul...this should only be a short spike.

This is the same approach I'm using.

I was 63 in January and don't plan accessing my Super for a few more years yet, so that should give things time to stabilise and recover.

Energy/petroleum stocks have gone nuts.....might have missed the boat there. But ultimately it's not a matter of if, but when it all bounces back. This is not the first major blow we have had to stocks and it certainly won't be the last. Ride the wave and sit tight...pannicking is what the rich people rely on, as normal people try to leverage their position and sell. Meanwhile wealthy investors come in like vultures and buy.

....or you could try your luck at buying jerry cans of fuel and selling them on Marketplace!

I have a long term view also. I was hoping this Iran thing would be another short term hit to take pressure off the release of the Epstein Files.

But I'm thinking that this war is turning very ugly very quickly. I do hope I'm wrong, but this is going to take a long time before it's resolved and I'm comfortable lowering my risk.

Warren Buffet sold $134 billion during the bull run in 2024 and the selling contined into 2025. Maybe he saw what's coming.

But you are generally right, if I was in my 40s I'd be taking, and took, the same approach as you. It will all come back.... eventually

Yeah.... mine is all from my own contributions....the problem is not knowing how long I'll live . If I knew that, I could spend each year accordingly. I've told my kids they should only rely on the sale of our house, the rest will be spent.
