I know a poor mug who sat on one. He has the scar and the broken off barb(in a jar) to prove it. He has video of the surgery to remove it. It was so painful he was crying most of the time even after the anesthetic

I only got 7 barbs out of 13 when I jumped off my board straight on one of those little buggers...

Instant pain and agony, then big stress as I had to sail back a little km to get back to shore.

When I got there, I was feeling dizzy, I ditched my gear (couldn't careless) and walked to the rental hut to ask for some hot water to pour on my foot.

Got boiling water which burnt me but couldn't careless either.

Worked a little but already had quite a lot of poison running through me, so I took my car and drove with one foot (manual car ) to hospital.

They soaked my foot for a while in hot water and "bleach", then the doc injected me xylocaine in each of the stings....

Took a week before I could use that foot again and the the parts that had been stung were necrosed.

Aparantly vinegar is useless as well.
