Hi,
Has anyone had to have shoulder surgery? I have tears full and partial and cysts (ewww!) and fluid in my shoulder. How did you find the recovery time and how long did you have to stay in hospital for? Any info appreciated :).
Hi Meg,
I had stuffed up both shoulders coming back to windsurfing after 28 years out and thinking, stupidly, that I could probably do at 60 what I had done at 30 or so.
One stormy, gusty arvo I managed to get a severe ligament tear R shoulder and partial tear in the L. I couldn't lift anything above shoulder height without pain and couldn't get into a comfortable position in bed at night.
I had decompression via arthroscope and open surgery for the R ligament repair and only needed decompression surgery via arthroscope on the L. I was in hospital only overnight and needed almost no pain relief post-op. No swelling and uneventful healing. Obviously I had to have 2 separate operations.
Had to stop sailing and squash for minimum 4 months but the surgeon strongly advised I take 6 months out before loading things.....he wasn't too happy that my sports are windsurfing and squash!!!!
I've had a full and complete recovery and get no pain at all and am back to normal in my strength and range of motions.
I did a great deal of research when choosing my surgeon and , unusually for me, I was very cooperative in my post-op rehabilitation.
All the best and I hope all the planets align.
