I'm a Tattoo Artist. I have just moved to Australia to experience a different culture.

Since I've started studying the tattoos' world, I was drawn into the history and the symbolism. Tattooing has been practiced across the globe since at least Neolithic times, and has been used as a cultural symbols among many tribal populations. (New Zealand, Marquesian Islands, Japan, India, Siberia..).

What I have always believed is the true meaning behind this art.

A tattoo artist is a person that must use his knowledge, he must understand the story of the person in front of him and create a connection between them.
Doesn't matter which kind of tattoo we consider, if the tattoo artist has the necessary experience to support it, the result is the perfect balance between the person and the art. Every single tattoo is telling a story for those able to read. (if you are interested I advise a good movie to see "Siberian Education").

In this generation tattoos are seen to be more of a "fashion" or accessory rather than of a connection between the artist and the individual. What is suppose to be an art and a culture has since been turned into a job.

What I have noticed after a couple of being in the country, and the purpose behind this post is to question whether you think tattoo artist are more interested in the money than in the story they can create for people.
A lot of people are satisfied to have a replicated tattoo on the skin rather than creating their own story with meaning, purpose and expressing a deeper culture of art.

I used to be scared that blokes with tattoos, long hair and beards might beat me up but these days i'm just scared they'll make me a bad coffee

If painting, peircing or modifying their body makes someone happy, great.. why do the rest of us have the right to judge if there's no meaning or culture behind it?

In the garden that you are seen there are a lot of Cherry blossoms, definitely is a spring garden. The Japanese use Cherry blossoms to symbolize the arrival of spring, the fragility of life and they use it as a reminder to celebrate beauty.

I understand MDSXR6T, you don't like the tattoo art, but sometimes we are scared in what we don't know.

I appreciate the tat, have some ink myself, but what you just said there can be construed as you being a fan of Justin Bieber.
I'm also of the belief that so much ink out there is wasted, and too many people out there are hurting the art form.
My daughter (at 17) once got a tat by some chump in a garage that said "Trust me, I'm lying", it pissed me off to no end, both at her and the amateur chump in the garage, talk about a career killer. I made her get a cover up of a simple feather, by a professional.
Hopefully Au. and N.Z. have tattoo licensing laws, here in the U.S. we do, sort of, it's a state by state regulation, most all parlors need a license and are inspected by the Health Dept. but not always for the individual artists, it depends on the state. Before AIDS, there was almost none anywhere.
I'll get off my soapbox now, but like I said, I appreciate the tat, and am not against getting some more, but I need a good personal reason behind my next one, just like what I have now, not into skin doodling just because it's cool.

Most off the plan tats are very trendy, and you can tell when they went on. My mate has a celtic armband and a barbed wire armband on the other side, both late 90's trends. He also has a tribal tatt and the kids names big on the arm, both 2000's trends. He's just decided he wants them all gone, even with the pain and cost.

I reckon tatts once made you a bit unique and tough, now having no tatts does the same thing.

All tatts have meaning. If u have them it means you're a retard. It's great having physical labels so I can judge people before they open their mouth.

I saw a guy at the beach with a tribal tramp stamp the other day, was so funny!

He was about 45 years old. Prob got it mid 90's

I personally am not a massive fan of tats, having said that i have one on my shoulder.

My sister in law who has Cystic fibrosis was on her death bed in hospital with swine flue and she had always wanted a tattoo. I promised her if she pulled through and made me a promise to look after herself, that my wife, her and myself would all get tattoos. (Much to mother in laws disgust )

Well the day came and she only wanted three little birds (almost like Macca's symbol) on her arm, my wife opted for three slightly bigger birds on her foot, i ended up with three birds flying over a beach scene with palm trees and a island.

So as much as i dislike the idea, i did it for her and I'm happy to say she is happy, healthy and annoying as ever

Aren't you expect a bit too much from idiots who can't even write their own name properly ? I like watching some of those silly semi-documentary depicting mindless fools went to Greece or some place with a secrete magnet which attracts such creatures. Drunk and drugged out of their f-king mind, and ended up with some stupid cartoon characters on their private parts.

Basically, I don't like people with tattoos. Yes, I am judgmental in this respect. Somehow I instantly connect tattoos with nasty bikies. Hell Angels, Mongols (Mongrels ?), etc out to tell others "don't mess with meee". I just can't help dislike tattoos. But then again, I do have a friend who is a really nice guy and a helpful person too.

Why broadcast to the entire world who you are? Let them draw their own conclusion about you, rather than you decide for them.

I wonder if Mark Latham has one that reads "I am a f-wit" !

It's funny to see the brain dead idiots on a freezing winters day wearing singlets so we can be impressed by their tats and what fwits they are.There's their meaning.

I had a removalist show me some of his tats (I didn't ask) he had something written behind his lip and a fish on his penis(he whipped it out). "for the catholic girls who don't eat meat on Fridays". Which I thought was quite funny.
My ex brother in law has the Indian feather barb wire around bicep, child's name in old English font underneath each forearm, and the biggest tribal tramp stamp I've seen on anyone. Needless to say he is a complete tool and I teased him mercilessly.

Whether you love them or hate them, the issue regarding having them removed is a apparently more serious than simply getting rid of something you don't like the look of anymore.

A friend was recently talking to a leading dermatologist about skin issues and the like and the Dr was discussing the various skin issues he deals with i.e.: skin cancer, dermatitis....blah blah

He said that many dermatologists now carry out laser removal of tatts (as this can only be done legally by a Dr in West Aust) however the issue is that lasering a tatt simply shatters the ink into tiny particles so that it can be absorbed into the body. He was saying that the issue with this is that 3 out the 4 main inks used in tattooing contain a compound that is highly carcinogenic. In its ink form under the skin it is not a major issue, however once it has been absorbed into the body these inks are then soaked up by the liver as it attempts to do its job at filtering the blood. The Dr was saying that with so much ink removal happening these days that we are not far from an epidemic of liver cancer.

That said, this dermatologist refuses to carry out tattoo removal.

Think long and hard before you ink yourself up!!

I did have a choice, and I dont regret it and my view is the same and wont change. You are just going by how you feel on the subject, then projecting that onto me and by association calling me dopey.
