Noting the massive cuts in Government staff, particularly Health, Education and Science, should Australia target those people for recruiting?
Surely all the other rich countries are doing their best to recruit the best and brightest out of the USA right now? Streamlined access to visas, organized process for hiring to research positions, etc. I imagine it's like the US is having a fire sale, all that's left is to see who's buying.
And what's a common complaint here in Australia? Not enough people in Education, Health and Sciences.
I imagine Dutton could jump start the nuclear plan well below budget with some savvy recruiting?
I think the flaw with this is that American is already recruiting people from India and China, so why wouldn't they just come here instead?
Probably because we don't really have that much in the way of innovation.
I remember meeting someone in the science field from Europe, and they were saying that they type of jobs in science that exists in Europe just don't seem to exist here. Why would anyone bother coming here if the jobs don't exist here?
Immigration here is just an easy solution to maintaining GDP levels and keeping the economy growing. We don't really seem to have any great gaps that need filling despite what appears in the media.
Employers here really want: Cheap, cheap, able to work as many hours as required, cheap, and maybe cheap. If they can't find that here, they will argue that there is a shortage.
