Totally love this show & my boys love it also .
My 13 year old said to me he has such a passion & dedication its great to watch . I was a bit stunned I hardly expected that comment from him . We then were trying to figure out how many languages he can speak or at least understand.
Its quite a few .
Im glad to see australia got in there with the saw fish .
Maybe he could come catch a bunyip next time .
I think its totally amazing how some small bodies of water can have such a large predator capable of killing humans after all we expect sharks in the ocean they get big ocean is huge but to see something the size of a bull shark in a tiny creek is just astounding to me .
Just wanted to know what other people thoughts on this show are

look it's formulaic. I don't believe for a second he knows all those languages. It's just part of the pantomime, as is taking the notes. (edit i just googled. he speaks portugese, french and spanish well. I find it unlikely he speaks russian or japanese. but every show shows him understanding some local and nodding and taking nods. I think this is just some tv dramatisation. there would be producers etc) but i dont mind, as the kids love it - especially my daughter!. And the chernobal show was quite interesting with the radiation and the impact etc.

I'm a "bit" of a fan of the show, but it did get me wondering after getting totally smashed on Bream gear (near Midland) just how far up the Swan river Bull Sharks travel? I was thinking Sting Ray but the speed it took off now has me curious.

Great show! Who cares if he doesn't speak Swahili or Arabic???? The fact is he is a gut full bastard. Not sure I would be keen enough to handle some of the big predators he does.
I did swim in the Amazon river in Manaus and I am still alive, piranhas won't touch you, and the guide told us to splash water to "scare" the sting rays, I would be a bit more careful after having see the show on sting rays.
Now I would not swim in a small pond on the banks of the Amazon for sure............ could contain a few hundred of starving Piranhas left there when the river receded after the last rain season!

Not sure on Swan River, but can tell you bull sharks used (maybe still do??) to get as far up the Georges river (Sydney) as Milperra. Which is roughly 25Km from the ocean.

Bull Sharks have been known to inhabit fully in freshwater ....so your not safe there either.

you get bull sharks in ipswitch. they do all the way up the river

yeah i love the show as well, despite being a tiny little bit dramatised but a ****e load better than Extreme Fishing with Robson Green. Robson, in my personal opinion is a total dick

Plenty of bulls in the Swan right upstream, I've seen them in pools just below Bells a few years ago, before it was infested with Cichlids and was crystal clear up there in summer.

I once caught a massive stingray wasn't far off the size of the amazon stingray in port Macquarie ..
In the river&
When I got it up to the surface it lashed at me whipping its tail across the tinnie I hit the deck cut head a bit on seat .
It broke line then was going to cut it anyway there was no way it was coming into boat but it frigging sacred me for sure that was in pretty deep water I caught it but I'm sure if it was the shallows &got you and its barb got caught it would have been quite capable of dragging you &drowning you .
I understand its tv &realize that its edited &scripted for maximum effect but its impressive that he can speak the languages he does &what I like is that he doesn't make any moral judgment like say ross kemp he just seems to accept people as they are &goes fishing &I agree I don't like Robson green extreme fishing or most other fishing shows that just seem to be a continuous advert for whatever fishing gear sponsors them .
I mean he's fishing in his lucky shirt full of holes not wearing hat shirts etc with sponsors name on it. &basically what the hell else is on that's actually worth watching at that time.

My nephew loves the show, yes he speaks three languages and uses phrasebooks and languages start to intertwine. However he does not speak russian, mongolian, the language of the South Pacific Islanders he has a guide and they just cut the footage. If you see the footage of that stingay in asia man that is one huge mother.
Yeah I think a lot of the show is hanging around waiting for the bite.

In one of his episodes he caught a juvenile bullshark 80 miles upstream in an area that had been blocked off from the ocean by a dam wall for years! Not only can they swim in fresh water but they can happily breed in there

Yes, bulls can live happily in fresh or salt as their liver (or kidney?) can regulate and remove salt from their body to suit their environment. Have seen bulls caught up near guildford in the swan.

Actually still looking forward to weather heating up a little and going for some crab and prawn dives in the swan, just hope I never meet a bull down their....

Bull Sharks feature pretty regularly in Sydney Harbour and Pittwater discussion. My advice don't swim in the quiet little bays upstream. Favourite myth/fact are the ones trapped in The Basin just waiting for a proper feed.

Re River monsters, my whole family enjoy it, New episodes would be nice and no we aren't fisherpeoples.y wife thinks his eyes are spesh.
