It's a nippers board actually, water tight but a bit worn looking. I may not need to do the whole board just a few sections

What kind of paint ? If I had to guess it would be acrylic auto paint, primer/topcoats/clear coat?

My artistic ability is limited to taping off a section with masking tape. ;)

Yeah just use automotive spray cans, a wet and dry with 400 should be all the prep you need, unless the previous coat was something strange,
do a small test first. I'm not sure of this but I think if an enamel has been used, acrylic will melt it and you'll have a mess.

Should be OK over original paint, the problems seem to occur over an old repair.

I am very interested to hear what others have tried. I have a board or two that needs a little paint touch-up. I know there are plastic primers out there especially for car bumpers etc.

^^ Plastic primer is essentially to melt the substrate a little on thermoplastics. No need to melt a fiberglass / epoxy board - just a normal primer if its sanded and well cleaned. Etch primer a little better on raw fibreglass laminate.
