Does anyone know the history of this board?
Wondering if it would be any good for paddle boarding?
If not, how do I determine market value? (sails, boom and dagger in good shape)

Yes, thank you Mark-australia, it IS a serious question! I need to know 'something' about my Reix board. Wondering if i should keep it or sell it. Paddle Boarding did NOT exist when I was quite a bit younger and windsurfing (at least I never SAW anyone standing on a board with a long paddle toodling about on calm waters like I do now. If I had of, I would have asked them why they didn't just go buy a canoe and go to Algonquin?).

My dad bought the windsurfer from some guy years ago that said it was a French racing model and hence was quite different in shape, size and dynamics from what he had tried in Florida (and fallen off repeatedly because he had balance issues) and what we forever after saw on the beach. Our board was stable, flat, quite long at 12.5 ft and if one 'could' hoist that mother of a sail up out of the water without getting backache, one could go like stink in 30 knots in Georgian Bay and land with half the board up the beach and never get wet from start to finish. (Lake Huron. Look it up on a map...regular strong steady westerly winds, and GREAT beaches) I used to enjoy racing with Hobie cats.

I now sail on a 16 ft Diller Schwill (sail #403) built in the 70's by two german guys (Diller and Schwill who ended up almost killing each other but they made solid fun cruisettes before they parted) and tho I live on Lake Ontario and have access to crew on 30ft plus racing yachts , still prefer Lake Huron and my little D.S.

As for SUP (I'm assuming that means Stand UP Paddleboarding?? I have no idea except what i can garner from googling the Reix and coming up with little except a discussion in 2011 on this site that cited the name and trying to learn a bit about paddleboarding), yes, the board is quite old, but it doesn't seem that narrow to me? (30 inches) Why would I want more width? Seems plenty for any purpose that might involve a paddle, no? Can you explain? Board was always wide enough for fishing tackle and bait tied to the mast, and once a cooler for a day trip to an island, so why not two feet standing up getting from A to B on water?

I realize you folks in Aussieland have ocean all around you (so maybe width is pertinent?), but all we have here in southern Ontario, Canada, is the Great Lakes, but even then, I usually don't sail much farther than I could swim back if something went drastically wrong.

In any event, how about at least one of the 170 some odd people that have viewed my post, that seem to know about wind sports or boards, at least send me in the right direction to learn something about mine?

Dont know anything about the board, but at 30 inches wide I would have a crack at using it as a stand up paddle board.

Sorry about the etiquette faux pas S.H. Not much of a forum junkie so didn't know that. Now I do.

Dang if i could find anything on google about the relic board (other than a brief reference on this site). At least it's younger than me, so maybe I will try standing up and carving a long handled paddle and giving it a second life. Not much else to do when the wind dies and the deep freeze of winter approaches. I wonder what Mark Twain would have said, if he'd seen into the future of rafting with a stick? LOL

I posted the board for sale and someone asked what I wanted for it, and I didn't have a clue so thought I could get history or a ballpark figure in a hurry.

I plead a need for speed and very little patience. Opps.

So would this be a good time to ask my second question? Where is the cup holder for a G&T with lime with these newfangled blow up mast windsurfers?

That will paddle just fine. Might be a little hard for a beginner but you will get the balance pretty fast

gday from Oz shwllsailor, using the expression ," determine market value" probably the best way to start your first post
hence the rarity of replies. often people buy something for $5 and think it will sell well on ebay so rather than doing some research they simply post on a relevant site and let other experienced people do all the ahrd work .
try it on a retro cycling site andsee what happens, it would probably be the same on car and MC sites.
i would suggest try SUP on the board, try it on a modern board and report back.
my kids and I lived on old freebie boards for years

Putting it in a lake, and standing on it with a paddle will answer your question better than 1,000 replies ever will.

Give it a go, and if you enjoy it, then keep it! (Although don't give up first go, just in case you need to learn to balance.)

If you're going to sell it, it's worth whatever you can get for it, which is probably not much. Anything from $20 to $200?

I will try it for SUP and see how it goes. Going to have to hurry before the water gets too cold as weather is starting to change here in the great white north.

Not sure whether the daggerboard will be needed or not but I suppose I'll find out.
