Indeed a role model for many and for a more humane treatment of refugees.

As for Frank Lowy: In 1946 he was an asylum seeker on an illegal boat from France and was eventually allowed into Palestine after detention.

"One of 750 passengers who after World War II left France on board the illegal immigrant ship Yagur, Lowy was caught en route by the British and deported to the detention camp in Cyprus. After a few months, Lowy was allowed into Palestine and was brought to the detention camp in Atlit."

Today in Australia, Frank would have been locked up in Manus Island.....food for thought.

Trust you to change an obituary to a decent bloke into a political platform, take it to HW.

Gee nice contribution Rupert.

Some of Les' best mates said these things of him the day after he died. It's a badge of honour to uphold the rights of refugees.

He was a role model for multicultural Australia and for immigrants.

Clearly, some people still have issues in these areas.

The death of such a man often brings these issues into focus.

Great man.
