4-5 weeks ago i watched karnivool play the whole superunknown album at the newport in freo. It was an ode to rock. I drank heavily had a epic night and payed a cab driver 120 bucks to get home. It would of been 100 but i had to tip him 20 bucks to go through hungry jacks and eat it in his car. Fair deal i thought
I grew up listening to soundgarden and it was a good tribute and epic night.
I did get to see soundgarden but i was 18-19 at the time or about 100 years ago they were epic, one of the most underrated bands of that era,
This news really saddened me and he was a legend.

Loved Badmotorfinger. I bought the CD with a mate the day it arrived at the record store! We loved it so much, we went back in the afternoon and bought the previous album Louder Than Love. I think his Cerwin Vegas were stuffed by the end of this session - and so were our poor young brains and livers.

Unlike the groundbreaking rawness of Badmotorfinger, Superunkown was a perfect rock album with moments of hard rock but also moments of melodic psychedelic bliss.

1994 BDO, arguably the best BDO ever - Soundgarden probably just shaded a relatively unknown Powderfinger as the gig of the day

i worked on over ten Soundgarden shows since the mid 90's. Never had much of an opinion on them.

But after Bono labled them as legends, I Ithought about them and think they were way overrated and pretty dull.

Their shows in 2012 stiffed badly.

Looks like all the population of both the north and south island are there,
And looks to be about 200 kiwi's flew back home from Australia to attend.

Soundgarden also headlined the last Soundwave festival in 2015 - forcing the festival into bankruptcy due to poor ticket sales and causing a $14M loss.

No problems with scalping during that tour either.

Im sure people will look back at the trolling you did and the way you changed peoples lives for the better, all those musical memories you created and the happy times they shared with your music, the greatest gift to give.........

Maybe this has been a systematic function of your life which has created who you are now. A faceless man who spends every waking hour trolling on a watersports forum from the safety and security of anonymity behind a keyboard.
I am not sure where things went wrong for you, and hope a speedy recovery with your emotional turmoil.
I wish you all the best and there are people out there who can help you, the earlier you ask for help the more chance of recovery and assimilation into society is possible.

2011 Big Day Out was huge. 2012 Big Day Out The wheels started to fall off, the partners split and the festival was sold off. No one turned up to see the legends. Soundwave then made the mistake of booking the legends in 2015.

I worked on Soundgarden's 1994 shows also, but don't really remember anything about them. Ramones were the highlight for me that year - I remember they got a fish head from the Adelaide market and left it out the front of their managers room.

Facts they may be, it'd also be fair to say that grunge did not really last as a genre much through the 90's and many great bands from that time/genre (including Pearl Jam imo) struggled to remain relevant and attract new followership through the late 90's early 2000's, so to measure an individuals impact in the way you are is hardly representative of their value, influence and contribution to society or the art.

I'm not a huge Soundgarden fan though I do like their music and I do believe that through the 90's they had a large influence not only on many fans but also on many bands who followed. They made some great music and sad to see one of the fathers of that pass.

What I think is tragic is that a personal vendetta or desire to aggravate one or two individuals (following on from your HW input) leads to some of the stuff that has been said here. I'm sure his family aren't reading SB but no doubt this sort of rubbish is going on elsewhere and I only hope that the families of people like yourself aren't exposed or go through similar should they find themselves in a similar unfortunate situation (not that I'd wish that upon anyone).

Having an opinion is one thing and there's no requirement to agree but sometimes a little empathy is justified and sadly sometimes the old saying "if you haven't got anything nice to say then don't say anything at all" applies, sadly this may be one of those times (for both of us)

I believe that you forgot the word "alternative".

PS: Blaming one band, albeit HEADLINER band, for the demise of two separate music festivals, is "drawing a long bow".
PPS: The rot with Soundwave started the year before when in 2014 (Soundgarden did not play), the organisers lost $300k and decided to go one more.

2011 would have been the very peak of the BDO. But with that came competition from other festivals, bidding wars for artists, exclusivity arrangements with venues/local promoters, loyalty of core staff, internal issues with drugs/alcohol and a whole lot of other sh1t came into play.

It was my understanding that Prince and Kanye West were scheduled to headline 2012, but Prince fell through at the eleventh hour. Soundgarden promised the BDO they would have an album out prior to the concerts and didn't deliver. When ticket sales started looking terrible the promoters split over whether to cancel the event. But yes Kanye West/Soundgarden turned out to be a complete disaster. It was embarrassing, but at least everyone got paid. The BDO struggled after that.

Fish rot from the head first - I'd say the rot started with Soundwave from day one. Some of the stories I've heard about the promoter are unbelievable. I never worked for him and glad I didn't - he was more of a gambler than a promoter, who inevitably lost everything.

Oh, I don't believe I've said anything inflammatory about Chris Cornell - very sad that he took his own life. I don't know him, I only worked with Soundgarden on around 15 shows, didn't particularly like the band, and only remember them from the last tour - for how few people turned up.

Sound garden have 2 million fans on Facebook so they obviously aren't that bad.

Those festivals are no longer around because dickhead pill popping kids prefer to listen to Katy Perry, Justin Beiber and all those fake studio built pop stars or computer generate electro press play on the iPod DJ's these days that make money selling lunch boxes to kids at Kmart.

Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana were the 4 big bands of the early 90s that produced a whole new genre of music and was in protest to the ****ty hair metal that was starting to take over from the late 80's.
Believe it or not but Chris Cornell and Soundgarden were the pioneers of this movement and paved the way for the other 3.
Now you don't have to like their music, but your downgrading a person who lead a rock music revolution, a person who changed music, a person who will be remember for having one of if not the best rock voice of all time.
Chuck on Rusty Cage, Jesus Chris Pose, Spoonman if you think these are dull then I feel sorry for you.
He didn't have any studio autotune, he didn't lip sync. He stood on stage and was a pure a singer as you will ever see.
He was also an amazing song writer and from all reports a down to earth great person.

Just have a look at the current amount of youtube clips of bands doing live show tributes for him. Aerosmith, RHCP, Metallica just to name a few.

Now I know your a profession troll, on a site that is dedicated to wind in Australia of all, and it might make you feel like a big man typing away, but whilst a few people are remembering and talking about the life of a musician and a great person, just keep your **** to yourself.
