Been playing a bit of his stuff of late. His grainy vocals never changed, and in fact got better with age. I often wondered how he didn't pop a blood vessel with the way he sang - he always gave it his all. RIP

Joe Cocker was one of the greatest performers this world has seen !!
saw him at the SMM bowl in melbourne during one of his low points , but still managed to entertain .
his records were some of the first in my collection .
RIP Joe

My faves on the "real music" thread, serious loss, his real name, John Robert Cocker, the Joe came later.

I read a tribute yesterday, (forget who it was by) but one of the things he said was that Joe Cocker had an amazing ability to do a cover of a popular song, put his own stamp on it (i.e. completely change the way it was phrased/sang) and make it so much better than the original.
"With a Little Help From my Friends" above is a classic example.
