If you are not bothered by the mess, petrol dissolves it too and leaves a strong odor. Its a bit slower than acetone too, but a fair bit cheaper.
I may or may not have melted it down to put it into the bin when faced with lots to get rid of. Its sticks to things so, don't use anything you want back.
My understanding is that the 'resource recovery centres' just want to make as much money as they can and polystyrene is too bulky for its weight. They even charge a different charge for bulk lots of it.
So, mix it in with the other heavier stuff, and as long as they don't realise, it should be good.
