What really gets to me is that if everything is so knife edge , why are sports like tennis , cricket and the likes still permitted to take place on an international scale ?

The shops are a mess again, but the first person to say anything about my panic buying gets my dirtiest look.

The problem is that you have 4 shifts of support staff to cater for as well as the quarantined people. And you still have to keep them isolated from each other to prevent the infection having a chance to spread.
And you have to transport people who do turn out to be infected to a place where they can be more closely monitored and treated.

But I'd say it's a no brainer to get the security and catering staff to do only the one job with danger and isolation money paid on top of the regular pay.

Yup over here in queensland the govermnent wanted to use the brand new mining camps up north. Not sure what happend to that idea but i think that is what is going to prove most effective.

The hotel quarentine is good but the mining camp system would/will be better. Hoepfully it would stop us going into more lockdowns.

As I relatively new West Aussie, I did the right thing once I learned of the impending lockdown. I went to the bottleshop.

Sure, you can buy it when you are in lockdown, but who wants to be the last one who cannot buy their 12 bottles of wine, 2 bottles of spirits and 3 cases of beer for each night? My neighbours would laugh at me!

If they did home delivery toilet paper, people would have nothing to do.

Does anyone know if kiting or windsurfing qualifies as exercise under the rules? Do I need to wear my mask out in the water? Maybe I can paint one on in sunscreen? From a distance no one will know.

Oh yeah, the idea of remote areas as quarantine camps is a good one. If these new strains show themselves to be very contagious, it will have to happen, no question. Pay people to serve 'swings' at quarantine facilities is cheaper than shutting your businesses down every other week.

As an ex-NSW person, I think its good that Mark McGowan sees that its not as simple when you have to deal with it, and hope he learns that NSW and Vic have a heavy burden when dealing with it.

Can't we staff it with Covid-deniers? They won't catch it as they have good immune systems/eat organic food/ don't watch mainstream media.

Jokes aside, it may get to the point where these shifts are needed. If they can do it with mining camps, they can do it with quarantine places.

Only works if noone tests positive. If that happens they are staying longer and you're out of sync. Similarly as soon as you have a border closure and people get sent to quarantine from interstate outside of that cycle you will have the same problem.

How about making the "regular" pay level decent enough to live on comfortably?

The vast majority of these "essential workers" who keep getting given the hero label, are perpetually struggling to make ends meet.
I work alongside a lot of these "heros" who would dearly love to have stable shifts, regular hours, and single employer instead of juggling 2, 3, and even 4 jobs, and not have to juggle credit cards to feed, clothe and house the family.
Pats on the back from the media and government poobahs along with warm fuzzy feelings are appreciated - but warm fuzzys dont pay the bills.

People arrive everyday on a rolling system of 14 days. Staff are looking after people who have been there for 13 days and then also somebody who is on day one. Exposure and turnover is significantly inflated.

Surely it would make more sense of one hotel, one group entry day one, all stay for 14 days, everyone tests clean, all leave, then clean the facilities and repeat. Staff do a 14 day on : 14 day off roster, only have contact with one fixed group.

Staff could do a 3 & 1 roster similar to mining.
1 week working, 2 weeks quarantine & 1 week at home with family etc.
Going home daily to mix with family & driving an Uber is crazy.

Down side is that it takes me an hour to rig up and then pack up... I will need to be streamlining that. Maybe arrive at the beach with the kite already inflated?
