Heard reports of sharks swimming around surfers over theweekend. Anyone think ther might be link to whales recently buried around there?

You'd think 100 m is along way from the water, but then we don't really know. . I don't think burying anything at a beach like that is a good idea.

The "100m" refered to its location south of flagged area of beach, not distance from water.

Not sure how rare sightings are, I have seen 3 in the last 15 years so definitely not a daily occurance.

Reports I heard were of sharks sighted by surfers in water at peregian. Not sure of further details like size, species etc

Sorry i did read that bit, it said in the dunes. I don't think its wise at all.. But its cheap and no one ever complains so they get away with it

presumably water tables,gravity,decomposition,and commonsense don't apply to public servants burying whales

100 m is quite a short distance for a contaminant to travel through beach sand!
I just don't understand why dead whales aren't just netted and towed out where they'll be eaten and cleaned up in no time.

There was a dead calf in mooloola river mouth about a year ago... coast guard did exactly that dawny, towed 20kms out to sea.. I think IIRC it took them 2 days or something, long slow mission.
