I have noticed alot of sellers are selling extremely overpriced items and say x amount sold.

eg: Toddlers drink cup for $1700 with 3 already sold. Worth about $8 at chemist warehouse.
eg: Children's train sets - $999 20 sold 5 remaining. Around $60 at Big W or Target.

How do they manipulate the sale? They appear to have over 50k+ in feedback and are good sellers according to feedback.

I've never sold on Ebay but can you list said cup for $5, sell a handful then edit the listing and jack the price up to go fishing for an idiot?

In a nutshell... Yes.
You can edit your listing without effecting your sales history or feedback. The examples given above do sound odd but.

Sounds like the special models from Nigeria.

I sent an email to somebody with an absurd price on their item. They said they put a huge price on it because they had stock problems and could not provide the item but they wanted their ad to be on eBay.

To prove a point to workmates that people will buy anything I listed 1 meter of used garden hose for 99c.

1 bid, the person drove from Essendon to Mordialloc in his 4wd to pick it up.

He realised his mistake however, still honoured the deal.

Did the same thing at my work last year when Maccas had the promo with the free coke glasses with a value meal. listed the glass on ebay and it sold for $17 +$5 freight! after that everyone at work had 1 or 2 of the glasses on ebay. who ever said there was no such thing as a free lunch?!

Harness lines for $168.00...maybe they're working on the same logic as insurance companies, (if you aren't going to dispute it, neither will we)

I sold a Bombora Astrotoy with an old Gaastra sail and fibreglass mast on eBay for $300.

Even though it was an auction, and I posted clear photographs and described everything accurately, I still feel bad about it.

I'm sad to say I fell for that trap when I first started windsurfing.

Bought some 80's kit that was 'perfect for a beginner' for $200.

Yep, suckered in because I had no idea.

Ended up throwing it away and buying decent kit from RPS

Yeah, its an interesting dilemma. You want something for your old gear, but you don't want someone's introduction to windsurfing be tragic and they give up on the sport. Which way to go?

I cut my old board up and put it into the waste bin. I would prefer someone to buy a newer board and take up the sport.

I did that with a motorcycle helmet. Removed all the padding and foam from the inside, cut the straps and took off the peak (dirt bike helmet). Was gone the next day. A week later saw a kid wearing the helmet riding a pit bike in the local park.

Did similar with my old motorcycle helmet, padding and stuff was rather manky from mice.

Like you, I cut the straps, and intended to take to it with a hammer.

Being lazy I took it to the rifle range instead and ..um...greatly increased it's ventilation properties

A few months later it was chucked on our council bulk rubbish collection pile, and within 2 nanoseconds the local kids were squabbling over it.

From what I hear, it is now a lampshade

wheres the dilemma? just throw in some metamucil some reading glasses from the chemist and a satchel of boiled sweets.
