Went to GP the other day, and Doc gave me a pre-filled in "my medicare" registration form, and then briefly explained scheme. The Doc mentioned that without joining this system, it will be difficult getting my mild sleeping pills. She asked me to sign. I said, no, I don't sign anything unless I understand what I'm signing for. I had never heard of this scheme before this appointment.

I've read the 'my medicare' government web site pages. I've come to the conclusion that this scheme offers me no benefit, but I could not find any info about restricting certain mediation if I chose not to be apart of it. Does anybody know about this caveat ?. How are they f***ing us ?

I would hazard a guess. it's a mild attempt to curb the "one visit" dr$g collectors, with a bit of personal data collection thrown in for good measure.


call me a conspiritard if you like. Personal details are the new bit coin. Everybody wants your info on file, for good and bad purposes. After years of no telemarketing/scam calls, I'm now getting at least 5 calls from random noms a week. Thanks ahm

I get that feeling as well. Plus a "healthy" amount of departmental empire building. They can go bash it. I'll just stick with status quo.

Does not appear to be too sinister. They already have all your data.

It is voluntary and free to register in MyMedicare.

When you register in MyMedicare, it will notify your general practice that you have chosen them as your regular care team. MyMedicare patients will have access to:
-greater continuity of care with your registered practice, which has been demonstrated to improve health outcomes
-longer Medicare Benefit Scheme (MBS) funded telehealth consultations with your GP
-triple bulk billing incentive for longer MBS telehealth consultations for children under 16, pensioners, and concession card holders. From 1 November 2025, this incentive will expand to all Medicare-eligible patients registered with MyMedicare
-the General Practice in Aged Care Incentive program that provides more regular visits from a GP and better care planning for people living in a residential aged care home

I'd love to know what that first statement even means. Greater continuity of care
I book for my doc when I need to. He never says no
continuity of care exists for me it seems.
Typical wa^k word stuff from a Gov dept

but it does sound more about encouraging more bulk billing and they wanted to tighten it up in the back of house IT systems to prevent misuse, or capture data better

Means you go to the same gp. Hard where I live as they are booked out months in advance.

Oh yeah I know that feeling from living in the bush before

Yeah, I read all that. When the My Health Record was introduced, I opted out right away. Ever since them, I have "X"s on my transcripts next to Opt out of My Health Record (or words to that effect). So, unless you tell me this is decoration and some CT, then only my Covid immunisation records are on govt files, which I can view on my.mygov.gov.au

I'll have to take your word for it, as I have to first agree to join My Health Record in order to link it, and then view it. I'm not doing that.
