Do any of you knowledgeable people in the Fremantle/Perth area have any idea where I can buy some reasonably priced mild steel sheet to repair the bottom of my Indian sidecar boat? Without actually going to the suppliers their websites aren't showing much in the thickness I want.
It's had quite a bit of rust cut out and patched (very roughly) in the past and I'm planning to replace the patched areas with larger sections of about 1 or 1.2mm plate to give it a more seamless and stronger finish. There are quite a few small rust holes in the sides as well which some will need plating also.

disclaimer: I never bought anything from them but see their big sign out front that says "we cut to your requirements" everyday on my commute

"plate" starts at 4mm upwards and under that is "sheet" so are u searching the right terms? Just an idea....

sheet around that size should not be hard. Given the size maybe a sheetmetal works for offcuts to avoid getting a minimum 2400x1200

I got some steel from Di Candilo recently. Can't fault them, they were great to deal with.
Nothing to do with them other than a one-off purchase.

Mark - that distinction actually crossed my mind but I didn't have time to check it out.

another source to try - any trailer manufacturer will have the correct grade sheet steel you need in stock, and the guillotine to trim to your required size.

You might even be able to scrounge offcuts from their recycling bin if you ask nicely.

Gota a ****load of 316 stainless sheet dunno if its 1.2 or 1.6 old machiney guarding food grade but unsuitable for resuse in food industry. Cut it out accuratly with a 1mm cutting disc what size you chasing?

If I end up cutting out the whole floor I'll need about 2 metres by up to 800mm wide but not necessarily in one piece.
But I envisage getting away with about a third of the length.
1.2 or 1.6 would be fine.

360* 2000 usable cut out difficult to join together unless its guilotined dead straight options there to run horizontal or length Was gona knock up a series of leaning dices out of it for the Cottesloe sculptures thingo but that was 7 years ago. Anyways the option is there.

Thennnnnn do u weld stainless? Need to just tack the strips onto something. Its all windsurf related.....

to easy mark if your chacing a few sheets pretty sure its 316< prob would of turned a tea colour if it was a lower grade. Can only weld mild steel at home as only have single phase fluxcore mig never got around to hooking up the bottle. be difficult to get nice straight cuts can still be suitably welded with a mild steel deposit but would be weld corrosion issuses and cracking if it was subjected to continuious impact /vibration
