Over an hour long.
His book or the one he co authored, The Complete Guide to Fasting, was what gave me the confidence to give it a try. I'd been considering it for over 18 months but was not convinced until I read it,
I've been fasting for seven days every second month and have gone as long as ten. I do two days a week pretty regularly although at xmas things fell apart a little.
My meditation practice definitely helped with the hunger which is just a sensation. As is eating, And all sensations pass.
The benefits have to be experienced to be believed. Astonishing increase in energy and alertness, Of course a bit of weight loss although not nearly as much as I anticipated but then I weigh the same as I did 43 years ago. You save a fair whack too which is a good thing.
I have to say that I was astonished by the amount of crap. literally. which was coming out of me seven days into my first fast. On day seven I did a massive turd, which after not eating for seven days, had me wondering what goes on in my gut. I've found now that farting on day three and four is extremely risky and like Cisco the smell can be quite overpowering,
The biggest lesson I have learned about it is the fact that the dietary advice we are given by the government agencies and mainstream medicine is pretty suss.
When I first started I was talking to a great big fat bloke about it and he assured me that what I was doing was dangerous. I had the decency to keep quiet with regard to his obesity!
Well done.. Depending on how fed you were b4 7 day fast... Can be down to just bile.... I would recommend taking some form of soluble fibre in drink..
JIC .. The human body has two main food processing cycles to end up with glycogen and glutamine.. Cell fuel...
The main one now in a world of 100% food supply follows break down of carbs and proteins to a lesser extent fats via insulin.
The excess is converted by liver into various types of lipids (fats) as they are a fantastic way to store fuel...
Evolution ary wise humans often had lean low food periods.. This is when the second process kicked in.. Turn stored energy into cell fuel by accessing stored fats..
When you go on a fast you need a fair few days to transition from insulin to ketogenic.. Not sure there's a general rule but likely 5+ days.. There is alot of glycogen stored in muscles... It depends on oxygen delivery whether it is oxidised or runs anoxic?? Not really but reducing cycle( lactic acid by product)..
There is usually weeks and weeks of fat energy. To burn... For those still dialled in the kids who have eating disorder.. So anorexia when someone gets into body tissue being recycled to stay alive.. Not repeat not in the normal bell curve of dieting..
So if you want to address fat burn for a short term water fast.. Have a session or 2 reviewing keto diet as this sets you up to be in the alternate energy cycle biochemically before a fast.. But arm yourself with knowledge...
Still dialed in... Ketogenic diets have been around medically since 1920's used for controlling epileptic siezures.. Been in and out of favor since.. By 1970's understanding of process way improved.. Some native food cuisine was at times triggering ketones.. Think coconut milk...
Today really easy to balance.. I use MCTs from suppliment shop .. Que????
Well google.. Used by endurance atheletes as a non- sugar based quick but also energy rich fuel... Or in diets for keto... Etc
Not all fats are bad.. Your body is good at detecting when satiated (full) with proteins and fats.. Not so much with carbs... Most eating competitions centre around carbs because of this!!!!
PM if you want a link or 2 to review...
Cheers
