Strict, because they load luggage into containers which then go into the planes cargo hold. So if it don't fit in the container it don't go on the plane. I was flying to Tasmania years ago to scatter my brothers ashes at Cloudy Bay Bruny Island and was going to take my Mal. I rang Jetstar before travelling with board measurements etc, etc to check and was told yep all good. Get to airport only to be told "Oh sorry your board won't fit on the plane, they must have thought you meant an international flight." (Different size containers on different planes) I totally lost it and abused the crap out of them. Their response "You were misinformed!" I said "yeah no **** I was misinformed by Jetstar customer service." Useless ****s. Will never fly with them again on principal.

Bali I assume
think it depends on how full the plane is, who serves you and how early you get there and your attitude and how big board really is
i have rung them and got told no but board went on next trip
mine was a 6'3 in a 6'6 bag no issues

Flew Jetstar again last year in Oct. I asked the same questions here and got mixed responses so i think it depends on who you have on the day serving. We have flown Jets start three times to Bali over the years and my Wife's board is 8'0". Until last year didn't realize they had a size limit so i guess lucked in but my Bali Quiver is Usually a 6'6" and a 7'0" never had an issue. Last October took three boards 6'10",7'10" and the wifes 8'0" and no problems in any way shape or form there or back. However, there's definitely some who have had issues like Hargs. and speaking to someone else it appears thats most likely if the planes are chockers with frieght as well as passengers. They use the exsplosive proof containers but also have pallet like configurations that they use also in the A330's and boards can go on them i guess?

Either way it stressed me out making sure i had a back up plan last year just in case they knocked ours back as we are a 4 hr drive from the airport. Turned out we were lucky and didn't need it but i doubt we'll fly Jetstar again to avoid the issue in the first place.

We have taken boards on lots of flights internationally and domestically on Jetstar and Virgin. Best advice we can think of:

• Don't exceed their length limit so they fit in the containers,
• Get there EARLY so they know they have to fit the board in a container and have the time to make it work,
• Wrap and wrap and wrap! Protect the board as much as possible, those baggage handlers can really punish your boards! We bubble wrap, cardboard wrap, and put towels in the board bags to protect them. Often board bags alone will not do the job and you might end up with a big hole or ding in your board, especially if it has been jammed tight in a luggage container.
