I figure someone here might be able to point me in the right direction.

So .... a couple of days ago, the bosses bought a jap import Toyota Porte. [2010 model]

Normally, this sort of purchase would have me doing this

But seriously, for what it does, it gets this

It has a high roof, no sills, flat floor and an electric sliding door on the left - the passenger seat is a wheelchair which is spun 90 degrees, raised, moved outside the vehicle and lowered to the ground.
Then after releasing 2 x hooks - away rolls the wheelchair.

Later, the wheelchair [and occupant] are reversed over the lifting mech., which then puts them both inside where they are locked back in place.

Only problem I have is the radio screen thingo is all in Japanese - and every so often the Jap. lass hiding behind the dashboard starts prattling on at me.

Any ideas on how to get the lass and the chook scratching's translated - or could there be a super secret code that makes it default to Auslish?

I think it will come down to if this model was ever released officially in English speaking countries. If not, and its a Japanese only model, I wouldn't think they would have an English option.

Install an aftermarket radio or learn Japanese!

If it hasn't been released here, you may find parts have been "shared" with Aussie models.

You may find the yaris dash is similar, or one of the other models.

A helpful Toyota dealer or good Toyota wrecker may help.

Yes, you can mute the navigation suggestions. I can do it - done it several times in NZ on imports - but only if I'm there on-hand :D

The radio screen could be pretty cool if I can get it to run in Oz-speak,

Hitting random icons turned it into a TV screen [dunno if it would work over here or not],
Other icons had "crashing surf" and "rainforest" soundtracks - and it looks like other sound tracks are built in too, probably intended to make a gridlocked peak-hour drive to work more relaxing or something.

Will do more home work and messing about to see what happens.

Unlikely. J-market navis don't have English 99.9% of the time.

Unlikely. I think like radio, the frequencies don't match. Try scanning for channels though...

If we got organized, we could do video Skype or take photos of each menu screen... Lots of the stiff you need will be in katakana, which is a phonetic script eg. Menu will be written and menyuu

I can get the radio working on fm - am, by searching, but not worked out how to set channels yet.

Will take a few pics of the screen and post them here.

Do you get the full spread? Last time I checked ( years ago!) FM ended just above the bottom of the range. Might just be NZ though.... or maybe the new devices don't do that.

Just tried out Google Translate on my navi. Works well enough to understand what's going on!
