Sounds like I am living in the 1920s. I may never leave.

I just feel that the world is becoming too precious about what individuals want and ignoring common sense because it feels "wrong".

I keep reading in the media that some women are upset that they get told to cover up when wearing things that are revealing. People wearing hardly anything getting upset when a flight attendant tells them that what they are wearing is not appropriate. It seems people believe that they can wear what they want and if the other people are offended its the other person's problem.

I would be just as annoyed if some guy got on the plane and you could clearly see his junk in a pair of tight pants. Some things I just don't want to see, and some things just bother people.

If I had the confidence of some of these people I could offend everyone by earing a skin-tight superman outfit on a plane so that someone can see my bits and the big beer gut that projects over them.

I think it's a clash of cultures, being from the hippy generation, nudity and body bits aren't such a big deal.
What you are used to is normal.
It's when clothing is out of your normal, that problems can start.
Take for instance, the young Islamic men, whose normal is women totally covered up. And the idea that any display of flesh, is an open invitation. Let them out on a typical Aussie beach and they go crazy.

So my take on it is, male teachers at a girls school could have problems, depending on their culture. There's no harm explaining this to the girls, and asking them to be considerate.
But somehow I don't think that would work, it could just lead them into a competition to see who could be the most disconcerting.

What a stupid comment made by the principal. What the f__k is she trying to say? That the male teachers are going to sexually assult them? The girls should be able to wear whatever they want and not have to be worried about being exploited by a teacher. I feel bad for the male teachers at that school who are being labelled as a threat most likely for no reason.

But yeah PC is getting of hand. Aussie humor going to be wiped out sooner or later because they are some sort of "ist" word. I reckon if somethings a joke, have a laugh and move on. Although theres always a time and a place.

Grace Tame is a Tasmanian young woman who had sex with a schoolteacher when she was 15. The teacher was charged and convicted for grooming her and having what would be consensual sex (ie she was talked into it, not held down and violently forced) except that the law says she can't consent.

Aww, I don't know... which I guess is why I brought it up.

I sometimes see women wearing stuff that is far too revealing, and for the one's that I personally find repulsive, its because they are unattractive. (I'm human) It bugs me that the same women would think I am perving on them, even though in the case of some of them I will find them ugly.

Why can I not look at them in the normal way I would anyone, man or woman, for fear of them getting upset and thinking that I am checking them out?

For women, would you be uncomfortable if some guy has his frank and beans clearly on display in yoga pants and then assume you are checking them out, or worse says something to that effect?

Like all people I am happy to be hypocritical and agree that if I find the woman attractive, I don't mind. Which sort of makes the point. Why should someone else feel uncomfortable about something you wear for fear of how you react to them or worse if you accuse them of something? I would hate to be a male teacher in this scenario where some girl is wearing something far too revealing and you could be tainted with the accusation of perving on them even though you are not?

Sounds like you need to address your own issues, perceptions and judgments of others.

I appreciate your opinion. No doubt you are not alone. I don't agree with it though, and worry that people now are all wanting to be the victims and not take any responsibility for their own actions.

If I ever have daughters I will be sure to let them know that not every man out there is evil and that not every man out there is nice and that they should be prudent to keep themselves from harms way.

I think you are virtue signaling there with that first sentence. Not many would disagree with you. Which is sort of pointless as you are preaching to the choir.

Which is a shame as this sort of approach is ignoring the danger and pretending that shaming the majority of the population who aren't the problem, is going to change the response of the minority 'crusty old men'.

It would be like me walking through a slum in Brazil wearing an expensive watch and carrying an expensive mobile phone and camera. "Why did they rob me? How dare they! They are creeps."

It is hard for schools to get male teachers as it is. Imagine if you are a perfectly honest, appropriate, adult male teacher, and some girl accuses you of perving on her because she is wearing something revealing? You would just cut your losses and pick a safer career or make sure you work in a co-ed or a male school.

She's suggesting the girls be a little modest and is being mindful of her male teachers that are already behind the 8-ball the moment they step into school. All it takes is one student or parent to make a mere accusation and the guy's career and livelihood is at risk. Like Eppo, I've seen it first hand, and recently pulled out of my education degree halfway through because it wasn't something I wanted to live with every day. The principal was doing her job looking after both her students and her staff. Good on her.

Don't agree, fine, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But the fact that some of you are shaming her or suggesting she should resign is only evidence of the PC gone mad. We're in a society that is increasingly unable to accept there can be differing views and thinks that the slightest deviation from the 'accepted' view makes you fair game to be hammered. It is a pity she didn't realise the potential backlash from doing something that is supportive of middle-aged males, and therefore not make the male teacher comment, but also sad that we have to pander to the vocal minority or else be indicted.

You can label me conservative, old-fashioned, whatever. I guess I had a similar upbringing to FN, and if that was different to yours and has resulted in me having a different view of opinion to you, well I guess that means I deserve to be disenfranchised from society, have my job taken away from me, and be kicked out onto the street, right?
