With every thing becoming cloud based and more and more being done out of India or the Phillipines is IT still a worthwhile career option? Is there still a future in it?
I'm in the phone system game and have been for years, and am seeing the typical box on the wall, or even in the rack (IP and digital) becoming more and more - less and less as they become a hosted option.
So as I have no qualifications in IT I do need to know a bit just because phone systems live in that environment. Is it worth my while investing time and money getting IT qualifications and shifting in that direction in readiness for the typical phone system to be a thing of history like the telex?

I say use your existing experience to move into a more technical area. What about trunk lines, PABX, microwave and sat links, cat5, fibre, IP camera networks, security (high end) etc?. Perhaps get a rigging ticket. That way you can still play on it tenure. I'd certainly steer clear of traditional windows/ domain admin. Even when it's.not outsourced to India or the Philippines u have overqualified migrants willing to do jobs beneath them.
