I know of plenty of superfit people that wore themselves out. My FIL for one. 1st heart, knees then hips. It was sad to see. My uncle was the same crazy for marathon runner huge distances every day then heartattack and 2 walking sticks.
Anyways yes heartbeats are relative to your species give or take some Darwinism.

A mate of mine keeps telling me how good he was in his younger days when he ran marathons one after another. Now in his mid fifty, his knees are wonky and needing surgery. A windsurfer from Europe suffers even worse knee damages. They actually move side way when pushed ! Then his hip also required surgery.
He used to do loops. The trouble is he did it while his knees and hips were already in very bad shape. I advised him against doing such radical moves. I told him just have a nice cruise around and try to extend his windsurfing a bit longer rather than becoming a cripple. Being fatalistic, he said he will stop the doing loops, but will do the big jumps. Some people just don't learn, do they ?
