Hey just thought i'd get your advice, I'm keen to go on a trip in january/ february 17, but I'm not sure what would be better for surfing.
I went to Sri Lanka at the start of this year and there was definitely some good surf, but there was only one spot I really liked (this amazing a-frame reef break), and it wasn't super consistent...
Indo on the other hand I've never been to. From what I can tell off season is still pretty decent, you just don't get those really big days.
In Sri Lanka the biggest day I saw was only around 5 foot anyway.
The only other factor is that Sri Lanka has all those euro babes hanging around who want to learn to surf lol

but why not go somewhere you have never gone before? go to chilli

Jan/Feb is a good time to take a tent and go across the ditch..cheap, good waves, less crowds, cool locals, good meat pies and beer..

I would do that every year for the rest of my life if I was single..BUT, my family commitments force me to save $$ and go to Bali

Try Somalia's capital Mogadishu or Colombia, India, Iraq, Lebanon, Kenya, Peru, Pakistan, Tunisia all reasonably safe places and should find some cheap hookers
