I never grew up with INXS. They were before my time as a youth. I grew up in the grunge era of the 90's. However I am now (and have been for about 10 years) a huge fan of all of inxs stuff before hutchence died.
My question is;
Do you think the new channel 7 drama will be even the slightest bit accurate as a reflection of their rise to fame? In others words, worth watching? Or utter trash?
As I never watch any type of drama like this or underbelly etc.
I'm hoping it could be an interesting watch, although I am not holding my breath.

Underbelly "Biker Wars" i thought was very well produced. There are also a number of other good Australian drama series that are well worth watching......... I think we will have to wait and see with INXS but from the previews it's looking good and might be worth watching.

So what's this programme called and which station will we find it on?

I think it will be. I have read a review where it said it was all about Hutchence and not the rest of INXS, but given that he was the one in the headlines all the time, it makes sense.

Watch it, and if its made well it'll be worth watching.

I would expect it will hold reasonably close to the truth. As FormulaNova suggests, there was enough stuff going on with INXS, and Hutchence in particular, to make an interesting show without needing to make too much stuff up. The Kylie factor will add a lot of scope to the storyline. Certainly Hutchence's personality and antics make for an interesting main character.

I expect it will be a great trip down memory lane for those of us that lived through the event.

Tim Farriss (founding band member) is actually one of the show's producers. This is an extract from a recent interview with him about the show:

The guitarist flew to Melbourne regularly last year to oversee the production, and said he advised the filming, actors and script.

Yet he hasn't tried to hide some of the band's more difficult moments.

"It's pretty hard to watch in some ways because it's close to the bone," he said of the show.

"There are the good times and the hard times.

"It's a pretty good reflection of that period of the band's life."

The 56-year-old also had to learn to limit his attention to detail in order to allow the cast of the show their artistic expression.

"I had to learn to stand back at times because there is a certain level of creativity involved as well and it is a dramatisation rather than a documentary," he said.

"So you have to stand back sometimes and give them leeway because they're not us, they're actors."

I hope it's good - I'm looking forward to it, simply for the music!

Kylie was never the same after Hutchence had his evil way with her. A spectacular loss of innocence I would say.

I used to see INXS at the Playroom, Rock Central at Tullebudgera in 81-82 just before they skyrocketed.

Their music is better than a belt, a closet, and a handful of KY

Take anything these kind of stories tell with a fine tooth comb. Since Michael Hutchence died, INXS were no longer. Not like Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth in Van Halen as an example.... David Lee Roth was a fantastic showman and vocalist, no disrespect but you could still listen to their music with Sammy Hagar.

LEGENDARY

Yeah the Pub band music scene in the 80's was fkn awesome and INXS was probably the ultimate. Played at the Coogee Bay hotel a lot. Back in that day there was the Angels, Rose Tattoo, Divynals Radiators, Midnight oil, Pseudo echo, and my favoutite at the time, Jimmy and the boys. There were heaps of bands playing every night of the week in Sydney. I remember sneaking into a pub under age and seeing AC/DC. Bon Scott was that P!ssed he could barely stand up.

The INXS TV show would have to be worth a look.

Was kinda enjoying it last night, but as with anything on channel 7, seems like 3 minutes of TV then 3 minutes of ad's(haven't timed this) had to turn it off.

Yeah we watched it last night as well and was surprised how good it was, good portrayal of the band by some good young actors, but the ads were killing it so we went to bed before the end as they became too much. Will watch the second episode but I do know how it ends...(spolier).

Pretty good show ..... was sweet to see some inner vision of Andy Farris .... if Hutchy was a genious with words then Andy Farris was an absolute wizard with merging sound (in his time)

We had a pretty awesome Pub scene at one time in WA .... still can be at times , even if the style is way way different nowadays ... ahhh balmy nights at the OBie , old Melbourne , Raffs ..... yeahhhhhaaaaa

One thing I am still not 100% on is were they initially a group in Perth, or did they go to Perth from Sydney, and then back to Sydney.

On the net their Bios say that they are a Sydney band which went to Perth and then back, yet as far as I can tell from the episode last night, they moved from Perth to Sydney.

Anyone know?

as the Farris Brothers, not sure if Michael Hutchence was with them then. Would have been 1978.
Yeah the Perth Pub scene was really pumping back then.

I'm quite enjoying the story, but (and maybe its just me) I thought the production values of the show were atrocious.

looked like a long episode of Home and Away or Neighbors.

The continuity after each ad break was really bad. I know its over two weeks but they seemed to be trying to pack too much in.
Should have cut out some of the superflous crap and smoothed out the story a bit.

For instance, we came back from one ad break to find (I think it was) Tim getting married. Hadnt even seen him get a girlfriend prior to that when suddenly ... boom ... married.

That's just strange. Not your response, just that some of the biographies say they were a Sydney band and another a Perth band. One said they went to school around Frenches Forest in Sydney.

If you were in the same year as John Farris in Perth, that's good enough for me. I think people are probably assuming they are a Sydney band, although why they would provide the names of the (Sydney) schools is a bit strange.

I am glad that I recorded the program and watched it this morning instead of watching it last night. All the ads would have made it a pain but being able to skip them is fantastic, and cut the program to half the time.

Just for the sake of mentioning it, I remember going to see INXS at the Entertainment Centre in Sydney in 1988 (I think). It was for 'Kick', and one of the things I remember about it was being able to buy alcohol (!!).

They mentioned "The Fingerprints " a great local band in the late seventies .Boyd Wilson the keyboard player wrote the team song for the WCE

Yeah, I just looked at the Wiki. The show had me confused because the family wanted them to come back to Perth.
It seems they all met in Sydney, and then the Farris family moved back to Perth with John. They all moved there after finishing school, and then ten months later moved back to Sydney.

Okay, now I am up to speed I can probably follow the rest

The music, haircuts and the real flash backs was all that kept me watching. It could hardly be described as the 'TV event of the year'. No way would it ever win a Logie. I thought it was terrible, bad acting, poor editing, cliched storyline - just awful. Hope next week is better.

The Shapelle story tonight was about 10 times better, and that wasn't great.

I finally watched it last night. Bad acting? I saw b00bs, other great 80's band names, b00bs, top music, b00bs. And hearing all that INXS music for the first time in over a decade was great. It did bring back fond mammaries of the Sydney pub band scene in the 80's. Er memories. Does Sydney still have a live music scene..??

I think perhaps it needed more episodes. They have tried to cover so much ground that there is no room for any character development, and only snippets of info crammed into too short a space. It's all moving too fast, touching momentarily on key incidents and points, which I think is what left with a cliche feeling. It almost feels like it's a trailer for the show.

Oh, and those hotel scenes with all the hot chicks strutting around in showcase lingerie, is that really what groupies look like?? I doubt it!

I think by that stage INXS were pretty famous, so they would have been attracting a certain type of crowd. I think there's a certain type of person that turns up to a free party with lots of things to drink and take.
