I am not sure I really understand hilly's perspective on this.

The Easy Rider characters, the Doors as artists and Jim Morrison's own beliefs were very anti-establishment, pro-small government with limited (or zero) interference in personal choice and societal culture. It was about rebelling against the man to be free of control by the authorities, importantly, by dropping out or walking away - rather than by marching through the CBD of the city that pays for your lifestyle whilst waving placards about and screaming about anything and everything that doesn't actually affect you.

If I had to pick political leaders today who embodied that rage against the machine by walking away, the promotion of free speech and free expression by saying anything without fear and the distain for conventional politics by doing the opposite, then I'd suggest that would be the very political leader whom hilly appears to view as the actual antithesis to rejection of conventionality.

I'd assume we are moving back to "this", not away from it. the question would make far more sense posing why the Cliff Richard Summer Holiday ('conformist') generation are turning away from the uniparty.

As others have mentioned the uni parties I attended 20 years after this film was made were pretty wild. I don't think they've changed too much. Still lots of pent up sexual tension, cheap alcohol, drugs and good music.

I just do not get the negative mindset. Why worry about stuff you can't change. Just go for a surf, fish, foil, wind whatever or mtb/motorbike ride. Life is short enjoy it

Yes life is short so enjoy it,

Just dont forget what we have was not without cost. Many fought and died and sacrificed much to ensure a free and prosperous Australia. So I think we have some responsibility to maintain and respect what was given us and also ensure those after us have it as good or better. Its not just about us.

Soundtrack is great. I grew up in same era as Albo, in the post punk era, I enjoyed listening to Joy Division, Gun Club, Birthday Party Saints, The Cure hahaha. I don't listen to that stuff so much any more: find it didn't age that well for me. More of a nostalgic vibe.

But I really enjoyed the Easy Rider soundtrack, the movie itself, was ok, but struck me as dated. I watch a lot of film.

Always interesting seeing something that you loved decades later to see if it still stacks up.

Searching for Sugarman is like a Sth African/Seabreeze niche thing.

I define Rodriguez and Paul Kelly as whinge rock - always complaining.

Good to listen to if you lose a job, a girlfriend, or if your car breaks down somewhere far away.

Hilly, are you just happy 24/7? If you are never sad, how do you really know if you are happy?

Interested in their point of view. Why be so grumpy when we live in an amazing time. Low crime, prosperous and lots of recreation time. But they are not happy and think someone is out to get them. I find the rise of Trumpism in Australia scary. The fishnchip poli is dangerous.

It sounds like underneath the happy foiling facade your the unhappy one, scared of Trumpism and a "dangerous" fishnchip poli.

Oh yeah, also on a side note (other than the fact the image in the funny images thread is neither funny nor an image), are the Romans not mentioned in the Bible ? I think there is an entire book related to them, even named after them in the New Testament. Would you not define Romans and people native to southern Europe as 'white' ?

What about Corinthians and people from around Greece ? What about the Philistines ? or barbarians ? would they not have included people from northern and central European areas ?

And what about Lot's wife who was turned to pillar of salt. Would a salt pillar person not be white, or was it some sort of new-age hippie pink salt ? Is a pink person not classified as 'white' ?
