How retarded is it that we have yet to sort out standardised bumper bar heights matched with door intrusion barriers for the vehicles used for suburban commuting?

Its been a huge step backwards

For many years, all Holdens had the same height bumpers, as did Fiats and I think - Aussie fords.

However, back then - side intrusion bars were unheard of.

Awesome rig SpaceCoyote!

However from what info i found on the web and you guys linked me it seems any aftermarket work needs to happen in Australia rather than importing anything with non-factory standard equipment, it would come off during complience :(

A few of you have mentioned a lot of mechanical faults/overheaiting but parts shouldnt really be an issue...just time, patience and still $$ if somehting does go wrong. Rust could also be a real issue and without getting eyes over it you wouldnt know untill its too late.

I've looked at few options here and think the Pathfinder looks like it could do the job too, few late 2000 models for about 22-25k so price wise it would come out to about the same price if not cheaper than importing. Off topic to my original post, is the Pathfinder as capable as a Hilux off road?

Thanks again to your feed back!
