The bloke along side me with the big ears and spanking new longboard at Manly this morning was Tony Abbott.

I had a laugh an hour later watching him walk up the beach with half the same mal under his arm.

There were a couple of guys hanging around with him and I just thought they were his cronies. However in hindsight I think at least one of them was a minder given that they swam the front half of the board to him on the beach. They were about three to a wave too, so I suppose was more than just a complete lack of surfing etiquette.

At one point Tony and his cronies went for a wave and got hammered. I went for the wave behind which required me to take off right in front of them while they were floundering in the water and I saw the fear in Tony's eyes (and the whites of his minders' eyes). I pulled off as I would have kooked it for sure, nailed the PM in the head with my board and by now probably locked up at Long Bay gaol.

Regardless of your political persuasion, I think it is great a leader of a nation can feel safe enough to go surfing. If more world leaders went for a surf and cooled off sometimes maybe we would have fewer wars.
Woops, just remembered what we have just committed to. Scrub that last comment.

It will be on the front page of our local rag "The Manly Daily" tomorrow morning. It also made the Daily Telegraph. Im sure Bennett surfboards will make him a newy like Barack Obama's one they did.

That's okay. No self respecting shark would bite any politician. It would take them months to get the taste out of their mouths

At least he had the decency to wear a wettie and not speedos I have seen him in the water a few times over the years he seems to enjoy himself (which is the most important thing) and likes to have a chat.

That's funny! That "Warning" sign behind TA when I first saw it I thought it read "Warning. Due to politician this area is unsuitable for swimmers..." then I realised it actually read "...pollution..." Two words that are probably interchangeable in a Thesaurus.
