Get an auto. The ride is rough and anything you can do to make your van life more comfortable the better.

Owned both never had an ounce of trouble as long as there serviced by decent technicians, costly parts over here though ,

ILoad but check prices of Imax, I know 3 guys who have purchased via auctions I Max's cheaper than I Loads and removed the passenger seats.
Proves the commercial vans are more sought after than people carriers.

Not sure if there have been changes - but going back a couple of years the Hyundai I-max used to have 2 x bucket seats up front, with enough space between them to walk into the back where the rug-rats get stashed.

I-load had a front bench as standard (??) either that or optioning buckets was prohibitively expensive, and as a result, lots of truckie's oversize / overwidth escort drivers either fitted adjustable suspension truckie type seats, or scrounged around and swapped I-load benches for the I-max buckets, as either type of bucket seat was way more comfortable than the bench.

As a bonus, the "walkway gap" between the single seats gave enough room for a decent size engel fridge to be fitted between the front seats - leaving more room in the back for bedding, cooking gear [and surfing stuff]

If you are going for a diesel - the emission control systems work well - at killing the engine,.
Gee it would be an environmental shame if the EGR system and a few other bits happened to fail before the engine dies

PCV oily fume catch can [genuine pro-vent kit] is an easy preventative measure too.
