Macroscien said..Imax1 said..Macroscien said..That is something I have been looking long time ago already but with much more simplistic construction.Just long vertical tube 3 -5 meters tall or sleeve and misting nozzle at at the top, fan at bottom. But there is one obstacle in open evaporative cooling system.
After some time you will start growing bacteria .This Legionella pneumophila will quickly demolish any benefits , be exterminating all people that do enjoy simplicity of evaporating cooling. Since my system with mist will not provide opportunity to grow bacteria as water could be simply chlorinated from that stright from the tap, this closed system definitely will grow bacteria and fungi, then kill or at least disable all around.

Maybe designer could go around the problem by using hypertonic solution of NaCl or simply salty water that may prevent bacteria to grow or add something else. For example could use bio ball made of silver instead of plastic. Silver will kill bacteria.
Chlorine

Do you want to release chlorine to your room?
No.
Not really ,
but super fit swimmers drink and breath it all day long,
maybe it ain't so bad .
Probably better than legionella.
, also , stainless doesn't kill legionella it just has a less harbouring surface . Stainless ain't perfect , just better than plastic.
If legionella gets the chance to grow in an evaporative system , chlorine or bromine or something similar is needed .
I know this because I have a cooling tower that costs me $250 a month to check . Government insists on it.
